Dozer blade for my BX2200

Today, I needed something to push some dirt and decided, since I had the steel, to build a small dozer blade for my Bota. I had a job where I needed to move some tilled soil "uphill" to level out a guy's yard. I didn't think he'd appreciate me back dragging onto his sod, so I fabbed this to bolt onto my bucket.

It's 6 ft long, made out of 3/8 x 4.5 in flat iron. The perspective of the pic is hard to see, but the bottom of the blade is perpendicular to the bucket edge and the top of the blade angles forward, mostly to give it some stiffness at the ends. Also, it keeps some stuff from rolling over the blade.

Used it a about an hour today to move dirt up the hill. Worked slick. With it being outside the bucket, I could see easier how it was going.

When I dismount it, I'll slap some paint on it..............

Ron, this looks pretty cool. I'm easily impressed when people are able to fabricate their own solutions. But I'm trying to figure something out. You said ( the bottom of the blade is perpendicular to the bucket edge) ...

From you picture, it looks like the blade itself is considerably lower than the bucket edge. Is that just my eyes, or am I missing something about what you said above?

You are correct. The bottom of the blade is about 2.5 to 3" below the lip of the bucket.

I'll take a better angle pic tomorrow.

What I tried to say was that the bottom part of the blade is perpendicular to the bottom of the bucket.

When you say ( the bottom part of the blade is perpendicular to the bottom of the bucket ) , you mean that on the blade, the bend outward from the bucket starts at the bottom of the bucket, and the blade extends down another 2-3" from there?

Now I probably have us both confuse, eh??

Ron thats a great attachment, one thing with some dozers you can tilt the top of the blade forward so it wont dig into the fill or the other grond its slides over it without cutting. One thing else that you might find handy is to cut a slot inthe side of some 1 1/2 inch pipe the width of the cutting edge and botl it onto your bucket. I learned this from a poutry farmer that uses tractors to clean ltter off his barn flors it llets the bucket load with out cuttin the dirt floor. I do this when i clean up a burnt moble home or framed house. It bulds a small pile in front of the bucket then it overflows into the bucket. when im dont and hve a few little windrows ill go down the windrow and whats left ill remove the pipe and load the last bucket full.

So how is this better than tilting the bucket all the way forward and using it as a blade? or will the bucket on the BXs not tilt far enough?

While reading the Operator's Manual for the new FEL manual (in preparation for the new BX2300 tha should be delivered later this week) I noticed that it specifically said not to turn the bucket all the way forward and use it as a dozer blade.

Apparently it puts a bad strain on the hydraulic cylinder and the whole loader assembly.

Good Question Chucko.

I've tried smoothing dirt using the bucket tilted where the cutting edge is vertical. It will go into that position. It might be putting strain on the tilt cylinder in that mode.

However, I can't see how much dirt I'm moving when trying that, so it's like pushing blind. Also, my blade is 6' wide, so I can see the dirt buildup on either end, which gives me a better idea of how much material is moving. And the extra 2' moves the dirt faster.
