Just wondering if there is expected service life before the DPF has to be replaced or cleaned?

I heard numbers batted about and "normal expected life span" used in various forums. There is an expected difference between having the DPF routinely cleaned and having it replaced. I've read numbers anywhere from 5K hours up to 10K hours. Some DPF systems have replaceable filters - some must have the system replaced.

However - trying to pin it down to a specific time - is rather like trying to catch a fart and paint it green.

The average residential tractor clocks eighty (80) engine hours per year, according to stats quoted here from industry studies.

5,000 hours / 80 hours = 62.5 years.

DPF replacement will seldom be an issue for first or second owners of residential tractors.

Emission abatement technology will improve and probably simplify over time or we may operate electrically powered tractors in the future.

Agree replacement should not be required untill thousands of hours on the clock.

The residential tractor term has no reference in the tractor industry?

The owners manual says that for the "initial 100 hours of operation: The regeneration process is automatically performed as necessary during driving or operation. After 100 hours of operation: The regeneration process is automatically performed for every 100 hours of operation during driving or operation (under normal/high load condition). The regeneration process may not be automatically performed if the vehicle is repeatedly used under a very low load condition after initial 100 hours of operation. In this case, start the process manually".

So it seems as though it varies depending on what you do with your tractor (heavy use or light, idle use). I've put about 80 hours on my RK55 and I've had it for right at a year now. It's regenerated once at around 38 hours, but not since. If it only does so every 100 hours or so and if 'oosik' is correct, then it should probably last several years before I need to worry about replacing or servicing it. I don't know about cleaning it, I guess I'll see as time goes by.

I think Jeff has hit the nail squarely on the head.

i bought a kioti and asked about teh DPF system - all auto, probably replacement about 3000 hours. (filter only I thinkm ,they said $300ish). They have yet to replace one at the dealership - BUT - if 80/hours a year is correct and tehy've been selling them at most 6 years..that's under 500 hours. So yeah, nobody has enough time on a tractor to have any idea how long they last, or what the symptoms of a 'need a filter' are.

I was told keep the revs up when using the tractor, to keep the exhaust hot and reduce particulates and load on the filter. First regen was 38 hours, second at 71. I'm at 84 hours as of yesterday.

I can only relate what we have to do at work on IC school buses - 10-15% have issues, IC says it's bad sensors...we'll see. Those buses that never 'leave town' seem to have more issues than those that make trips on the hiway. Our tech says about 20 minutes of highway use (constant high rpm) seems to 'clean them out real good'. A filter is $900 on a bus.

Keep in mind to, The DPF is covered under their 8 year powertrain warranty. That is a huge peace of mind for me.

Also, I had a Massey a few years ago that I swear regened every 5 hours. It seemed very excessive.

Good thing I hear about Masseys with the new 1700 premium series coming out this Fall is that no more regen. They have done away with DPF.

I saw that. Before I found out about RK, I was pricing out Massey, and a few others. I was quoted $37900 for a 1755M Power Shuttle. I like the idea of the power shuttle. I just couldnt justify the $9,000 Price difference between the RK55 Cab and the 1755M Cab.
