2004 Kubota BX23
I bought an '04 BX23, who meticulously maintains his equipment. No problems. Then after a few months, I noticed hydraulic fluid leaking (very, very slowly) from the transmission oil pan drain plug. I drained the system, bought a new washer/O-ring and refilled the system with genuine Kubota oil. The old washer/O-ring was flattened (the black plastic part forming the center of the washer/O-ring). I snugged up the new one pretty good. Everything was fine for a few days and I have noticed it leaking (very, very slowly) again. There is a drip in the center of the drain plug like it is leaking out slowly and when it forms enough fluid to form a drop, it falls onto a cardboard box I placed under it. I'm worried about torquing down on it too far and stripping it but I don't see any torque specs. Anyone had any similar issues or offer an explanation/advice? Anything would help!

Guess it's time for a manual. You need one anyway. Usually when it matters, oriental made tractors seem to be real good about a torque table at the front or rear of the service manual and any time they discuss something requiring torque, it's specified in the illustration.

Rarely do you stop a leak by torquing.

Rather than just replacing the sealing washer/O ring, replace it again and buy a new drain plug too.

A small defect on the face of the drain plug can provide a leakage path.

Also look closely at the face on the transmission where the plug seats against again looking for a nick or scratch.

If a new plug and seal do not stop the leak you can use the product Kubota recommends to some of its plugs which have no seal.

NOTE
When reinstalling the hexagon socket head
plug, apply liquid lock (Three Bond 1324 or its
equivalent) to the plug.

You need to clean the thread area and plug with brake clean before using the Three Bond.

The WSM has a page of recommended torque values for important fasteners. See attached.

The drain plug is not mentioned. i.e. snug is good enough!
