My neighbor broke the blade on his 6' Bush Hog on Friday. It broke right at the pivot eye right after he had started up - not while cutting. Luckily it caught the back edge of the cover on the way out and didn't fly far. The break on one side was rusted so it had cracked some time ago. The back edge had a spot that looked pretty well hammered where the blades apparently clack together on startup. The PTO clutch on those Fords can engage pretty sharply. The other blade was less hammered and there were no cracks. Thinking about balance I recommended 2 new blades and that's what he got. Actually the style was slightly different so there was no question of using a new-old combination. The blade set that broke were a replacement set. The new ones were OEM.
