Drill or No Till?

Have you contacted the Wild Turkey Federation or Pheasants Forever in your county? In my county they have a 7' no-till drill that I have used, no charge. Don't recall the brand but it worked well for timothy, brohm, alfalfa and clover. I've also used it for warm season grasses (big blue / switch) but working the ground and using a drop seeder works better for that. Pay attention to the planting depths of the seeds, it makes a difference.
I have 55 acres planted with grasses and legumes that provide cover for the wildlife. Throughout the acres are food plots planted 100' apart consisting of 2 rows grain sorghum and 2 rows corn with warm season grasses planted in between the food plot rows. I plant the sorghum and corn annually with a conventional 4-row corn/bean planter.

That just knocked enough cobwebs outta my feeble ol' mind too make me think of another idea. Our Soil and Water Conservation District also rents (Tye and Great Plains) no-till drills. Both "pasture drills" and soybean drills.
They rent "per acre" with a minimum. I'd contact the county extention agent in your area.

Good catch Farmwithjunk. The drill I used is managed by the county Soil & Water Conservation District. Was donated to them by one or both of the organizations I mentioned. In my case there was no charge, not sure if that was because I was establishing the ground as part of a conservation reserve program or not.
On another note, I get the seed for the foodplots for no charge. That comes directly from the local Pheasants Forever chapter.
