Drive by Shooting!

My youngest found a nest on the window cover of my camping trailer. He found it the hard way, and involved his dog. After he dosed himself with benadryl, he got a can of strater fluid and one of his collector Betty Page Zippo lighters. The hornets all died in the resulting inferno, and the aluminum window shield melted too. Now there is a sheet of 1/4 in plywood where the nice aluminum used to be. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Too stinkin funny. I think this is one of those Paul Harvey or at least one of those stories that should be passed around the world as an email attachment. I share your experience with the dribbling spray. My can of Hornet "WIPE OUT" says sprays up to 25'. That should give me plenty of a head start, especially since the adrenelin is already at 50%, but no it does'nt even appproach 25 inches. Well, probably was for the best, a dud can of WIPE OUT saving me from a wipe out.

That's some funny stuff! You should write for the TV, lord knows they need the help...

Here in NH we have this kind of mentality ya don't see everywhere, and you guys know who you (we) are!! I emailed this to my CFO - she said "yup, sounds just like you!". I'm saying "what do you mean by that?" She just laughs....

I did find some cool spray one time that shot out to the alledged 25' but have not been able to duplicate the feat. Most of our flying devils are in the ground lately, so a quick dose of gasoline and match and no problem, also no greenhouse, barn, tractor...... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Oh well, what a boring place this would be with out us, right guys?

TV does indeed need some help, ever since Seinfeld went off the air, I've had more time for everything else so in some ways, I'm glad TV just doesn't hold much appeal for me. There are a few comedies, I'm not even sure of the names, one has John Belushi in it.
I think a series about a guy doing some of the crazy or silly things we have done would be great. It would have to have truth in it to be really funny. Tool Time is about the only show that approached this that I recall. The first episode could be about Valkman, the Hornet Man. Rat...

I had a less dramatic encounter with a hornet nest. Mine was about the size of a soccer ball. The nest was about four feet above the ground in a tree by the end of the driveway. I thought about it for a few days, then hatched a scheme. I stretched a piece of window screen across the door frame of my truck and slammed the door. Got out on the passenger side and taped-up the loose edges. Got back in the truck with a can of hornet spray and a pocket knife. I drove right up next to the nest. Poked a tiny hole in the screen. Stuck the hornet spray nozzle through the hole and let'm have it. I sat in comfort witht the A/C on and enjoyed some tunes. I blasted them every few minutes just for sport. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I guess my funniest encounter was when I was little. We had a cottage on a lake that was on a steep lot and on pillars. One year there was an old mattress under the cottage. In the spring my sisters and I were playing under the cottage and I decided to bounce on the mattress. As I jumped on the mattress a boil of yellow jackets exited the other end.
I tried to yell but the words stuck in my throat, too frightened to raise the alarm and flashed by my olders sisters, my feet barely touching the ground. I flew up the stairs and into the cottage looking back only once the door was closed.
I could here the yelps from my sisters under the cottage and it did not take long before their protests where ringing in my ears.

Those are Yellow Jackets that build in the ground. You really don't need to light the match. About a half gal of gas does it, without any fire. I always say that I thought they were running out of gas in the evening, so I gave them some. Then I went to the milk jug tactic and don't have them anymore.

Come to think about it the Reader Digest used to carry humourous stories about life. I have not read a Readers Digest in years.
