You will want to do a really good coolant system flush before you put the new part on it and new antifreeze in it.

OK, that's funny! This is at least the forth time the coolant is completely replaced this year (me, the first and last time it drained due to leak and the time at the deal when they reinstalled the radiator). I still have at least 2 gallon of coolants from the old days. Good thing I stocked up for the cars way back when. For a while, I thought about giving them all away.

Yeah, you want to wash out any metal shavings that may have contaminated the cooling system. Awater hose should do it.

Old antifreeze? Just so long as its not the red junk!

I always use anti freeze approved for diesel engines in a diesel. If I look on the bottle and it does not say "Approved for Diesels or, Cummins" I don't use it in a diesel. Tractor Supply sells "Fleet guard" anti-freeze that is approved for diesels.

Good to know because the manual doesn't say. I'll be sure use the right antifreeze from here on out.

Waiting for gravel loads so I have time to respond. First time using an iPhone on the web. I would have never tried it with the android! Anyway....My water pump went out on a job and I replaced it and finished the job the same day. It's an easy swap. I was lucky that my dealer happened to have one in stock. I suggest replacing the belt at the same time and keeping the old one for a spare.
