Driverless Cars

Self driving cars need infrastructure to work , some demo cities are already up and running.
GPS does not work well in canyons, natural or formed by buildings.
This infrastructure is slowly spreading, but cost $. Car firms are footing most of the bills now, some cities/states are chipping in. When the mesh is working, cars will advance a lot, as most of them must "try" to do this function using radar and cameras today.
I don't believe the radar and cameras are being used like GPS, more of a collision avoidance rather than where am i.

radar and cameras for lines and sides of road too, not just other cars.

Since Tesla's Full Self Driving is only using cameras they are dropping the radar units per Elon Musk over the weekend. That should address the phantom braking issue. Less can be better sometimes. I have never used my X-ray vision in the last 50 years for driving.

Take it from me, you're lucky, some things you can't unsee. 😄

Not a car, but I see some guys have penciled in the start of MAS. Mayflower Automatous Ship, to leave Plymouth England, heading to the US on 19th of this month. No one on board, mostly solar or wind powered, but I see the skipper, or skippers will be in a control room watching here on land. Next I guess super tankers will be going with no crews and running aground in narrow channels.....no wait a minute.

I saw Bill Gates of microsoft fame saying that with all the robots and autonomous this and that people won't have anything to do.

In my very limited experience it seems to me that many people with nothing to do will do just that......and eat.

...and potentially cause other people problems for their own entertainment.

Have witnessed the old quote about "idle hands" being true and applicable more than a few times..... (n)

It's Wall-E coming to a city near you, lol. Life is going to suck for those who never learn how to drive when the automation crashes. It'll happen, just like the power going out.

Kitty Hawk here in NC just announced they are introducing a driverless bus for the park. Kitty Hawk-is pretty cool. I think the distance of their first flight would fit in a 747? Something like that.

The drone shot looked to me like the bus was going to be going around in a perfect circle.

A cheaper solution would be to drive a stake in the middle of the circle and attach the bus to it with a long rope?
