Finally I get to put on a top coat to my gravel driveway. Over the past 5 years I have probably spent several hundred dollars on shear pins for my snow blower because I only had 4" stone down. this afternoon I should be getting about 60ton of asphalt millings. Tomorrow I hope to get out there with the box blade and rear blade to spread it all out. Then I will put about 800lbs of concrete in the bucket, hook up the box blade with added weight and the roller to see if I can get it packed good enough for this winter.

I would also like to see pics of this project. I am planning on using this method for 1 or possibly 2 driveways.....

Another vote for pics. I'm planning on doing this to my driveway end of next summer once the house is done.

i've heard....that a lil bit a diesel will soften up those millings and make em stick together!!

It sure will soften them up. In fact put on enough diesel and you end up with a pile of aggregate with no sign of the original asphateens.

Egon is right. I worked for a paving company during summers in college and we would dip our flat faced shovels in diesel to keep the hot AC from sticking and at the batch plant, the drivers would spray diesel into the ten wheeler truck beds for the same results. The only thing that softens without harming the AC mix is heat.

So finally here are some pictures. Two of the first three loads were pretty chuncky but I did get them spread fairly well. THe guy I bought them form stopped by and noticed haw bad they were and asked if I would like a free load of fine stuff. Can't turn down free. So finally he was able to deliver some on Monday. Here is the final outcome.

Anyone have any experience using a vibratory roller on asphalt millings? I tried rolling this as best as I could but the tractor still leaves marks in the top layer. If I still had some warm summer left I would just leave it but I want it well packed by snow so I can run the snowblower over it. The rental place has 1.5 ton and 2 ton rollers any thoughts?

I ordered some "chunky" stuff to try and get it to hold on my hill, and the guy brought me fines...we went round a round a while, and he showed up with a vibratory roller on a big skid loader. It helped quite a bit, there's been very little washing since then...very little rain, but it looks good so far. If you do that, you have to have it perfectly level/even/smooth before rolling
