For security its worth noting you can likely push these open by hand with a bit of effort. A car would push right through. You can get magnetic locks and such that help with that, but gates of this style are more ornamental to keep out most honest folks vs true security barriers. Most people would move on to an easier target, if there is a gate there likely are other security measures too.

Exactly.

Troutsqueezer,
You seem to be on top of most of the options, and I commend you on a job well done. It really looks great and your welding of the hinges and operator brackets look top notch. The style is really nice. Can you tell me where you got it from. You may have mentioned previous, but throw in another plug. You did their product justice.
In case of an emergency, most fire departments won't stop and look for a pin to pull, they will just plow through the gate to find the emergency. I would really reccomend Knox box or SOS unit. It's worth the investment for both piece of mind for your gate and safety.
If you can see the gate from your house they also ale long distance transmitters and receivers that might be able to open the gate from up to 1,500' away rather then just a couple of hundred.
Have you shot a video of them working yet?

Thanks again for the compliments, guys.

The fire engines around here are 4WD. I hope they find a way around the gate.

I had the gate custom built from a place called Irish Iron located in Carmichael, CA. A suburb of Sacramento. It was around $2,500 just for the gate. Total cost of the install will hit $5k.

I may go with a wireless box of some kind. Something to think about during the long, hot days of Summer. It's about 660 feet to the house.

This morning's work. My Tacoma PreRunner can haul 1,500 lbs in the bed so I am hauling 30 bricks at a time which is a little over 1,200 lbs. I have to make four trips to get it all. Didn't take long to stack them. That's the best part about this particular method.

I may go with a wireless box of some kind. Something to think about during the long, hot days of Summer. It's about 660 feet to the house. I'm just over 500' and NOT line of sight. Had a problem finding a good wireless intercom/opener. Found one for $500 that is a cell phone. It has a single button call box that calls my cell whenever someone pushes it, where ever I am. I enter cell phone numbers that I want to have access and it opens for them when they call the gate. I also have buttons in our cars, but if someone comes, pushes the button, and I want to let them in, I can open the gate from where ever I'm at.

Last pic to finish off the thread. It was an enjoyable project that I spread out over a couple of months or so, a couple of hours about every other day out in the morning sun, listening to R. Limbaugh (sorry, liberals :)) Eventually we will put some sort of statue on the tops of the columns. I'm leaning towards griffins or gargoyles. The wife probably wants some sort of lion but we'll see. Still to come is the metal estate sign that we ordered online.

Thanks to those who followed the thread and provided comments.
