Tourist trap? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Maybe so. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif When we visited the Big Texas, I did not attempt to eat the free steak, but certainly did have a fine meal there are a reasonable price, including the Mountain Oysters (the menu warns you that if you think that's seafood, you better order the shrimp cocktail instead). /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif )

Bird,

You took the words right out of my mouth!! The Big Texan Rest is a must when traveling I-40 through Amarillo!! Keep in mind though that coming home, going east on I-40, it'll be on your left hand side (opposite side of I-40 from you) but easy to get on and off from.

Richard, we've been driving I-30 from Dallas to Little Rock, then I-40 from Little Rock to I-81 east of Knoxville since before I-40 was completed, and just last year finally stopped to see the museum at Mud Island in Memphis. We thought it was interesting enough to be worth the stop.

AAA is great!

Re: towing - Seems to be something new there. I just had my PU towed and they warned me that there was a charge after the first 5 miles. I was under that limit. I have had tows in the past the greatly exceeded 5 miles with no charge so...

Odd bennie: You can use your AAA card as a bail bond if you are arrested. Some states (?tx?) can make an arrest if you can't come up with a speeding fine.

While you are in central OK, Oklahoma City(OKC), You can stop and eat at Cattlemans restuarant, Agnew exit south about 1/2 mile, then stop at the Bass Pro shop in Downtown OKC, you can see it from I-40, and then north about 6 blocks see the Oklahoma City bombing memorial.

( She's using one of those "Pods" things, so all we do is pack her up. We're then going to spend a day in Tijuana (sp?). )

Tiajuana. And DON'T go there with a car/truck/van full of your sister-in-law's stuff! You'll be a nice, juicy target for thieves (many of whom are Mexican police) and you'll likely have some interesting times getting across the border in BOTH directions.

BTW, those thieves have a million different ways of getting money out of you. Smash & grab, fake car accidents, where the police declare YOU to be at fault and march you off to jail (until you pay the appropriate bribe), and on and on.

Oh, if you go to jail, don't expect that car/truck/van full of your sister-in-law's stuff to be nicely stored for you while you get the bribe, uh, er, fine money together. It will all be long gone...

AAA can tell you about insurance down there. Likely your current policy will NOT cover you in Mexico. Don't assume. Check.
