Back to the subject of rural driving: Around here you see a lot of ATV's and UTV's on the streets. I think the utes are legal, but I'm sure the ATV's aren't. Personally, I don't mind EXCEPT when they tear up and down the road at midnight. I was behind one fellow on a ATV just a couple of days ago, and he was doing 40 or so, fast enough that I didn't need to pass him.

You're definitely older than me as Griffiss was closed when I moved back to NY.

Living both in Syracuse and Watertown, that area wouldn't be my first place to choose to ride a bike for the first time, being you may have a good 5 months out of the year to do so:D Too much winter...

I wasn't stationed at Griffis, We had a small detachemnt at Syracuse University for Russian Language. Griffis was still open and I was there for some things a couple time.

The guy from Spec II (Gary Shumake, I think) ported the cylinders and built the crank of my road-racing RZ-350. I bought carbs and pipes from him, too, and that bike ripped. It was at least as fast as the 750's of that time, and it handled better. I have a set of pristine Spec II pipes hanging in the barn. Eventually I'm going to find a dyno and run them back-to-back with the Tommey pipes I have on the bike now. Herr Juggs from San Diego did the porting on my 89. He calls it "Race Porting", but it's really street performance porting.

My pipes are not pristine.... they've been bottomed out too many times and are heavily dented on the bottom.

I sort of figured that was the reason for the invention of the crew cab pickup. Sort of a stall on wheels when you open both passenger doors.
My F-150 SuperCab with 'suicide' rear doors makes for an executive stall. :D

I prefer those to what GM has done. At one time an extended cab was handy for throwing clothes and gear into. If somebody wanted to haul passengers they could buy a crew cab. Now they're so stinkin' big...

Stinking big...I agree. I’ve held on to my 2001 Tundra for this among other reasons. I can reach over the bed sides. Toyota later supersized theirs too.

There was a time, and I'm sure still places where you have all the room in the world to put excess passengers. Hey, remember, it's a pickup. Just no charging ports back there.

Get a solid back window , and you don't even have to listen to them! lol
