Driving to your Property?

It's a 900 mile hump from S FL to E TN. We have been doing it 2-3 times a year since '02. 3 weeks in the summer camping out by the creek, then 1long week during bow season, and a work week in spring. Started with 32 ac, and added 63 more. Retiring oct this year and plan on building a log home using the cedar trees on the prop......a 2 year project(mill & build...mill & build...etc). Used to motorhome up there but the high gas prices killed that, so we tent camp now and love it! It's funny, used to tent camp/backpack, then over the years evolved to a pop-up, then motorhome, now back where we started /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif...................wouldn't have it anyother way!

For us, it's only 20 miles, but seems like we've gone 100 miles out into the country when we get there, it's so much quieter and peaceful out there. We found a small patch (3 acres) in the middle of a bunch of other bigger patches, that are all built on and lived in for years, ours will be the last home built in this 3 sq mi area. The area is on the edge of town but considered "rural", and due to topography, parks etc no other home develpments can be built very close to it, so I expect it to stay pretty much as it is at least for the rest of my life there. There will be housing developements all around us someday, but nothing within a few miles, so it'll be our little refuge.
I've put my foot down that we'll either build this year or sell the property, I've been clearing brush and trees for three years, and we've had our drawings ready for 2, so I told my wife it's time to put up or shut up. I wanted to do what others have and build a garage first, but you're not allowed to live in such a structure, and finances dictated that the garage be part of the house structure, so nothings been built yet except the driveway. We took the plans to a local design/build firm and they're supposed to have a proposal ready for us today, if we can afford them, I'm ready to go. I can't wait!

We currently live on 5 acres about 8 miles from the nearest town, but we have 20 acres in the mountains in New Mexico about 600 miles away that we plan to build on and move to in another 6-8 years.

I live on 800 acres in northern New Mexico, deeded 160 with an attached BLM section. Attached is a picture of my cabin that I'm finishing. Not sure how to do more than one picture, I guess with multiple posts?

The driveway runs about 1,000 feet from a paved state highway. Lucky for me! Still figuring out how to post a picture as an attachment instead of in the body of the post.

Your pictures are posting fine. I have high speed and they post well into the thread or as attachments but I suspect a slow modem user would rather see the attachment method used.

That place looks great and I can only imagine the privacy felt on 800 acres. Great place.

This is a view of my cabin looking north. It's just about complete; needs stucco base and color coats and some other minor finishes. The elevation is about 7,300 feet. I've got 3 landowner elk permits. 1 for mature bull and 2 for either sex.

Here's another view from the north, or looking to the south. You can see the roof of the cabin only. This picture was taken from about 1/4 to 1/3 mile away.

The tree cover is mostly Pinon and Juniper with scattered Ponderosa in the higher spots and Oak brush along the drainages. 80 acres is treed. The other 80 deeded acres is mainly sage and grass.

I can run up to 12 animal units on the attached BLM; each unit is 1 horse, mule or steer or 1 cow/calf combination.

This is a view to the East by SouthEast. The San Pedro Peaks Wilderness begins about 12 miles away as the crow flys. This land is the attached BLM section lease. I get a lot of elk moving through here in the colder winter months.

Anyone need a like-new bailer?
