Dropped diesel nozzle in gas tank

Ditto on the "glad its happened to others". I took a long wire (tig rod or coat hanger would do), bent a short, 1/2" L-hook into the end and easily fished it out.

Turns out that the nozzle was not the one for that tank, so it was loose in the cap. Because my shoulders are all shot, it's convenient to hang the fuel filler in place using the nozzle to keep the tank in position. Hate it when it does that...

A funnel works wonders for keeping things out of the tank - especially if it has a screen. Chunks of goo in your diesel will also be filtered out.

Disadvantage: For folks like zz who have bad shoulders it requires holding up the 5 gal jug or taking the nozzle off and resting the short threaded fill opening on the edge of the funnel. It can lead to spills if not careful.
