Our pastures here in Wise County have those big cracks in them too, and with the drought as bad as it is, for as long as it has gone on now, it's going to take a lot more than an inch or two of rain to start to correct anything around here. The grass in the pastures has been so stressed due to grazing and lack of water that I doubt it'll ever come back this year. If we don't get some more than normal moisture over the winter, next spring will be real bad too in the pastures.
Add in there the huge amounts of water used by oil and gas for drilling all these wells and fracking them, and IF some new regs aren't instituted soon, we could all be in real serious trouble in Texas. The biggest driller of water wells in this area was saying that the major water aquifer was down 100 feet from where it was prior to all this oil and gas well drilling and the water they're using. Literally, MILLIONS of gallons are being used and wasted by that industry, on each well drilled!! Knowing that, I laugh to myself everytime I see one of those ads on TV telling people to conserve water by not watering their lawns!
This drought in Texas is an extremely serious situation that is not being addressed by the powers to be with reality!
