In 2002 I bought a new Massey 231s. The machine lives in the barn and has GoodYear tires all around. I noticed the other day that the front tires are beginning to dry rot/crack on the side walls. What's the deal? Are new tires in my near future or should I not worry about it.

With those tires being only 9 yrs old, I wouldn't worry about it. Sounds like it's just the typical cracking you get on most any tire as it ages. If they continue to deteriorate you may eventually need to put tubes in them, unless they already have tubes. Otherwise, considering the price of new tires, run them and get what you can out of the them!!

I know of tractors that have tires that were installed back in the 60's. I do not think you have a problem.

I have tires on my 1952 Case VAC with plenty of cracks. No worries for me,I have inner tubes. I suppose you could slow down the natural occurrence of cracks with oil or silicon. Baby oil actually works really well and has no side effects.

as long as they do not split thru or seperate the bead, run them. even if you have to tube them.

heck.. I've seen farm tires that split and were laced up with twine or bailing wire than a patch put on the inside :)
