Drywall question

   / Drywall question #11
Thanks everyone!

I ended up getting a new bucket of mud and trying it - NO problems at all. Looks like it was a bad mix. Caused a bunch of extra work but at least the problem is solved and I can get it all finished now.
Thanks for the help and advice!

I wouldn't be so sure it was bad mix. It may actually be that you just need more practice. You can come on over and practice on my garage. I am painting the inside of my garage for the first time after 27 years and there are some spots that need repair. And since you are a TBN member I won't even charge you for the experience. ;)

Lol - darn, I am busy that day, whichever one it is......

When we purchased the house, two bedrooms, 2 hallways, 1 "TV" room and a bath all had textured walls. Wife don't like textured walls so as you may have guessed, it was time to skim coat and smooth. We did all of them except this hall without the slightest problem. That is what really baffled me - I think I went through 12 of the 5 gallon buckets and then this. Was really weird.

I done a lot of regular drywall and must say it is one of my least favorite jobs. The mess it makes is a royal pain. Seems you cant contain it, it gets in every room, no matter what you do. I always tape stuff off, hang plastic, shut off the HVAC, but somehow it sneaks out and lands on everything.

Hopefully in the garage you can open the door and put a big fan to pull the dust out and away from you and the living space. Good luck

I built an attached garage when we lived in Alaska. Drywall the entire inside. Convinced me that I never want to do drywall again. Besides, I'm too old for all that foolishness now.

I never minded drywall much until I did a ceiling. I still do a little now and then and don't hate it, but I would not volunteer to do a ceiling, that's for sure.

Yes, s219 - it was the ceiling that was a real PITA. Walls were little or no problem.
