2004 Power Trac PT-425
When the OEM PowerTrac muffler died, I designed and installed a DUAL EXHAUST system to run quieter, sound better, get that major heat generator out from under the hood, blow exhaust away from operator, and have the mufflers farthest from the operator!

The exhaust is 1" galvanized rigid pipe.

Cut off old muffler leaving ~3" stubs.

6" Pipe slides over Stub; Elbow; 5" pipe; Elbow; 21" Pipe; Muffler.

Support near Muffler with 1" Pipe U-Bolt and Spacers through frame. (1/4" to 3/4" clearance from Pipe to Frame.)

Tack weld Pipe to Stub. Remove. Weld Pipe to Stub. Reinstall.

Cut ~2" hole with hole saw in bottom edge of cover to clear the Pipe.

Same on other side!

Recycle OEM Muffler as boat anchor!!

Interesting! I wonder if you would not get further benefit from heat if you wrapped the piping inside the engine compartment with some high temp insulation? My house boiler piping is wrapped with some stuff that can withstand 2200+ degree continuous exposure.
Why going dual instead of single?

Great idea Fourteen! It's very close to what I did on my PT.
I used glasspacks then welded SuperTrap tips to the glasspack tips.
It was a big improvement...plus it sounded a lot mellower.

Looks like I know what my spring project will be. Plan to take your ideas and also wrap them with the stuff from Summit. Hopefully this will make for less noise, hopefully avoid any burns and extend the life of the fuel pump. Thanks!!

""fiberglass exhaust pipe wrap that does wonders on reducing under the hood temps.""
.
With only a total of about 20" of 1" pipe under the hood, the benefit from wrapping the pipes would be negligible. The exposed surface area is too small, and there is plenty of air moving through under the hood.
The big benefit was getting that huge, thick heavy steel muffler out of there! It was like having a pot bellied stove, glowing orange and yellow inside, sitting next to the engine and under the gasoline tank! After a few hours running the gasoline would actually boil in the tank!! Now the hood does not get much warmer than body temperature over the gas tank.
I have always used Amsoil synthetic oil in all my air cooled engines!
The new pipes do not run close to the engine, the battery, the hydraulics, or the gas tank!
I like the looks of the bare pipes!

""Why going dual instead of single?""

The Kohler engine is a twin with a separate exhaust pipe on each side of the engine. It is much easier to continue two single extant pipes than to somehow plumb the two pipes together, for no advantage. Running as duals provides the shortest length of hot pipes under the hood, and the sturdiest installation!
The mufflers are designed for 10 to 15 HP single engines, and therefore two of these mufflers for a 25HP twin is just right!
When you hear it run, you will know why folks want 'dual exhausts'!!
.
The pipes are solidly bolted in place, but only four nuts need to be loosened to remove each pipe and muffler assembly. The pipes are never unscrewed from each other!
.
I painted the pipes with black BBQ paint good for 1000 degrees. They looked very nice until all the paint burned off after about 10 minutes of running!!!!

I do not completely agree that wrapping would not provide a certain amount of help, motorcycles wrap to get the heat away from the engine. But it would not net you the same result as your system did.

You could also ceramic coat your pipes. (coat them internally).

One thing on the iron pipe exhaust. I am moderately concerned about fire. Not so much to the tractor but to surrounding dry grass. Make sure you have a spark arrestor (looks like you do). I do worry that the pipe could come in contact with weeds and such. Steel pipe like that retains a lot of heat...
