I am wanting duals on my 2011 M8540. What are your suggestions? th rear studs are really long. Can i buy dual wheel extensions and just bolt another wheel on the outside or will this do damage to the axle/studs? any suggestions greatly appreciated

What you need to look at is snap-on duals. They use the rim for outer support and clamp on to the outer bolts supporting the rim. I'd recommend four clamps and you should be good.

Our renter uses the snap on wheels on his 7000 Series John Deere.

Where do you find snap on duals?

Does Kubota even recommend duals for these tractors. Duals ad quite a bit of strain to the axles. Given that, clamp on/snap on duals are your only option.
Try a tire shop that deals in agricultural tires.

Where do you find snap on duals?

Back in the 70's/80's when I worked for a JD dealer I sold them to farmers. DMI was one manufacturer. Here's another Rear & 4-WD T-Rail Open-Center Duals - Unverferth Wheel Products

The M8540 low profile utility tractor was designed
as a vineyard and orchard utility tractor with several
tread options from what I remember.

I am unsure if the M8540 has the same axle for both the
wheeled and tracked option or not.

It may be better and more cost effective to purchase high
floatation tires and rims to accomplish this and solve it that way.
