I was wondering if anybody knows if I can weld this?? or to it. I have an idea of what I want to do, but if I can't weld on it, it changes everything. Thanks

Not very well, youmight try using cast iron welding rods, but if strength is required forget it. You might put a saddle around it and work off that.

Ductile iron is not cast iron. Ductile iron pipe is the standard water main used for 12" and larger pipe around here. It can be welded with standard rod, but I don't know which would be best. Because of "hot soils" here in the desert, we do not use any saddles (they corrode very fast - even stainless) and all tee's for hot taps are welded to the pipe.

Ductile iron pipe is commonly coated with an asphalt based material so be careful of fumes.

Thanks for the help. Turbo36 thanks for the link, I'm thinking I brought home a 20'- 2000# culvert :( I'll have to think about it some more.
