Only difference is it is 'red' with dye.
You should be able to legally, but checking with your state peoples should give you that answer. Too many say they are buying it for off-road and then use it in their pick-up.
Buying it from a distributor who sells off-road diesel may be the tough part, at least it is around here. Only will deliver to large users in bulk, and apparently have to do the policing for the state by filling out a lot of forms.
How many gallons would you figure using in a year?

That'll do fine! Diesel, home heating oil, off road diesel are all about the same, just different colors to keep the tax man happy. Diesel 1 and 2 are just different blends for cold weather or warm weather. Diesel in below freezing temps can gell up or thicken, and should be treated if you live in a colder region. #1 is winter blend & less economical, #2 is all season & tends to gel in below freezing climates, but can be treated. Sorry...didn't mean to talk too much /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

there is a co-op less than a mile from my house. i am pretty sure they have dyed diesel. will check. i can just hop on the tractor and run up there anytime.

on another note, does anyone know of good resources to teach a newbie on proper FEL operation?

So you are going on the road to buy off-road diesel?
Wouldn't think they would have a pump to buy off-road diesel, but could be mistaken. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Hope you don't get turned in by the neighbors, or someone from the station selling the off-road (i.e. no road tax). /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
