The position furthest back is "off with a PTO brake" the middle position is "off without PTO brake" and of course forward is "PTO engaged"

All this long time time ago and you've finally provided a more believable and understandable answer to why the three positions and why the detente stops were so prominent and more like a gear shift in automatics that is center console located in cars of the 70's. I could never find anything in the manual yet it never made sense that it was just "extra". It also explains why the need for slight left and right shift movements as well as the back and forth. Thanks.

No problem axle. I study these Massey tractors everyday. They are all my experiments. I work at a dealership and have run across these questions and have found lots of answers (not all of them). A dealership is only as good as it's service shop.

There is never a shortage of New ideas for our tractors and in my case. . . With the GC1700 units.
I have a question regarding the DL95 fel. (I don't know if the dl100 applies too). Sitting in the driver's seat and looking at the stanchions on each side that the fel arms attach to, there is anidentical unique slotted type cutout on both the left and right stanchion.

They don't come in contact with any piece of equipment or accessory on the GC. It seems there is no purpose for those thick odd slots cut into the stanchions. And the dl95 fel is used by the gc1700s and to my knowledge no other tractors.

The combination of these facts implies the slotted cutouts are specifically designed for a purpose. Does anyone know what that purpose is?

It's for bolting a loader valve bracket on. I know the joystick is factory mounted. There are a few GC tractors that don't have the factory joystick. If the loader is an afterthought, you can always add one.

..... So I "warmed" turkey once more and put it in to sit for 10 or 15 seconds and then could push it all the rest of the way and turn it lol. :)
I always find warm turkey really gets my tractor going on those cold mornings...

I have the GC1720 and picked up a Martin Meteor 60-inch rear mount blower through Messicks. It works great and the GC handles it just fine. I have 900 feet of gradually sloping and curving gravel drive. As for blowing in reverse, it takes less than an hour to make a full width path (9-10 feet width/1800 feet). What I found works best is to sit side-saddle and hit the reverse pedal with my left foot. With the power steering it is easy to steer with my left hand. I didn't put a spinner on for winter last year, but I think that might make the grip and steering even easier while wearing heavy gloves.

Curious, have you tried cruise control in reverse? that wouble to really helpful for a long flat reverse snowblow run

Those slots look to me like theyæ±*e intended for latching a chain. Some metal gates have the same thpe of slots. Maybe intended for lifting the tractor? Not sure if they are near the CG though.

Without having seen them, that was my first thought as well.

Well it never ceases to amaze me how things happen with a tractor. It's a case of new learning again. I was bucket plowing the other day (a snow edge product attached to the bucket) . . Just pushing heavy snow on a very long steep concrete driveway and some concrete sidewalk. I am at the very bottom of the sloped driveway and I notice the gc1715 is not handling right. I turn to go up the driveway and it's handling worse and I glance down and here one of my front tires the bead is not right to the wheel and the tire is without air in it.

So there's no choice but to gingerly drive it up the driveway very slowly not wanting to damage the tire but also not wanting to be stuck on a steep incline. Got to a flat area and pushed the front end up with the fel to take pressure off the wheels. Get the tools out and get the front wheel off.

The tire forms back around the wheel so the sidewall never got outside the wheel. So I think maybe I just broke the bead seal and can re inflate. But there's no valve stem. So now I have to get the truck cleared of snow and see if I can get out the driveway to get the tire/wheel to a place to check and fix the tire.

Fast forward the auto repair shop finds the valve stem inside the tire and the inside of the tire isn't damaged by the wheel cutting into it. Somehow something didn't knock the valve stem off, it pushed it inside.

Simple thing, but how does that kinda stuff happen, and just at a bad timing and bad weather conditions. But everything fixed and good to go .
