Re: Dumbest (most unsafe) thing you\'ve ever done?

Wow... the list is endless....stupid to dangerous to stupid and dangerous and so on....

one of the dumbest things I ever have done was pull the trigger of an electric weedeater while standing in 3 inches of water in the rain. Let's say it was a SHOCKING experience.

I once held an 1800 lb alfalfa bale rolled part way up off the ground with a 2290 case tractor/loader so I could crawl UNDERNEATH it to pull twine out Tractor was in park, but the bale could ahve still giver way and come "unhooked" from the bucket you might say. After getting married and having a three yr old daddy's girl.. I limit the stupid stuff more these days. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Re: Dumbest (most unsafe) thing you\'ve ever done?

I don't know if this would qualify as the dumbest, but here's a fairly recent one. I was tilling the front field, and it's full of rocks. I've got the tractor in low gear 1st, so it's moving ~1mph. I hop off and walk alongside it pitching rocks away before the tiller hits it. No, I'm not pulling them from directly in front of the tiller, I'm getting them from in front of the tractor, never getting my hands near the tires. Because I'm safe, right? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Anyway, the tractor starts to wander off course so I determine that it's probably in 2wd and reach down to smack the 2-4 lever into 4wd. Oops, that wasn't the 4wd lever, that was the high-low lever. Now the tractor's in 4th gear PTO speed and heading for the road. I knocked the shifter into neutral before the catastrophe, but still, it made me realize how stupid that was. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Re: Dumbest (most unsafe) thing you\'ve ever done?

Oh, and for stupid, here's one on the motorcycle theme. When I was a wee lad, I had a 2-stroke dirtbike. That meant carbon fouled pipes and plugs and whatnot. Read that to clean the carbon from the pipe, just huck it in a fire and let it get hot enough to turn it to powder. Now, being as we were in the city, building a big fire was a no-no. We did, however, have an oven with a self-clean feature that would get the oven hot enough to burn all the baked on carbon crap and turn it to powder. Ideal! That's exactly what I wanted to do with my pipe, and it fit in the oven too! Apparently, however, that particular feature wasn't meant to cleanly dispose of built-up 2stroke oil. Great quantities of smoke are now pouring out of the oven. Did you know that there's a thermally activated lock on the oven that locks the door closed during a self-clean cycle? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Ended up unplugging the oven and waiting for it to cool down, then getting my (now clean) pipe out and having to run the self-clean again to get rid of the smell. Mom never did find out, and amazingly enough the fire department never did come over. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Dumbest (most unsafe) thing you\'ve ever done?

Hi Whodat

That's dumb. Hers's one. I was spray painting with the little cans of paint you get in hardware store. Had some paint out in car and was cold out. Well gee, warm paint will spray better? So I noticed this little door on the side of my gas furnace. I guess an inspection door. I placed the can in there with the tail extending into the fire box. Just for a couple minutes. When I realized I forgot it I ran over and pulled the can out. Just as I laid my fingers on can it exploded on my hand. The noise loud and the pain great. I didn't look at my hand for a minute or so, I thought I blew it off. It blew the flame out in furnace but my hand was intact. It hurt bad for a couple days.

That was stupid...

Cheers.....coffeeman
