Dumbest Thing you have done with your tractor

Oh, time for me I guess. Two barn doors.

One the low-clearance thing when I forgot to lower a sprayer. Cima mistblower 1, door 0.

The interesting one was plowing snow with the bucket near a different door and having a 10' sheet of ice break free when I was pushing towards the door. Ooops... You think you're safe when you're 10' away from anything breakable but guess what??? Nope.

I have done three dumb things so far. There are probably more just do not remember them. The other day I backed into a tree with the back blade on. I was not going fast but in low range four wheel drive. This was enought to make the blade touch the right corner of the tractor bending the lower arm and breaking the light. When I first bought the box blade and rear blade I pulled out of the shed with the box blade on and took the sheeting off of the shed. I also managed to find out the ROPS does not clear the close line pole very well while mowing.

Only one dumb thing so far. Forgot to put the plug back on the oil pan when changing the oil. One quart of oil on the floor. I had an extra quart so I wasn't down for the day.

I wanted to thank y'all for this thread. It's worth more than all those endless dry manuals with the "WARNING!!!" labels everywhere (written more for the lawyers than us, I think... )

The great thing about a thread like this, it's a riot, but you learn, too. I don't even own a tractor yet, but now have at least a few things to keep an eye out for!

So you see, we have to have the manuals, and if you can stay awake to read them, all well and good. But I venture this thread is a lot more readable, and I doublt you'll ever see it in the manuals!

Be safe!

Tom

I haven't done many dumb things with the tractor except maybe tearing up my lawn when using the FEL for moving snow, leaves those nice rolled up turf bundles!!! My wife asked me if I was going to start selling SOD!!!

Outside the realm of tractor owning my dumb accomplishments are to numerous to mention here. but one does stand out as a trophy winner, I was trying to get a fire going in an old wood stove in the shop, looking down at the smoldering kindling through the open top of the stove, with my head directly over the opening, I proceeded to pour about 1/2 a thimble of gasoline in, well as the 3 foot in diameter fire ball engulfed my entire head in that fraction of a second, I had the revelation that I was not that swift. no damage but some singed hair, I didn't even have time to react, it was over as fast as it happened, just stood there a moment feeling really DUMB!!!

Bought a bigger tractor than I can fit in the barn for cleaning out the horse stalls....

Not a problem except the only reason my wife bought in on the tractor deal was so I could clean out HER stalls in the winter...

Three years later and I still get reminded about that one....

OOPS.......... :D

Worst thing I've done yet..... going through a 11.5 foot space between the camper trailer and the barn. With a 12 foot rock windrower on the back of the Kioti Dk65c..... didnt even feel it, until I saw the step and a piece the fiberglass fender on the roadway

OOPS

Wait a minute. I'm on like the 3rd post, I think it was by Oversize...anyway that sounds exactly like me. I screw up look aroound to see if anyone saw me. If the coast is clear I'm home free. If someone sees me I say " let that be a lesson for ya".

One cold winter day I had left my tractor keys at home so I decided I would start my old tractor by jumping the starter solenoid. It would crank but not start so I sprayed carb cleaner in the air filter. Still would not start. I had given up and went inside my shop when several minutes later the thought hit me. I would just take another jumper wire and jump to the intake manifold heater then crank the enigne over by jumping the starter as I stood beside the engine. After about 3 seconds an ear shattering explosion occured and oil from the oil bath air cleaner went every where on me and the tractor. This explosion was so violent, I looked to see If my right arm was still attached. Pieces of the air cleaner and air duct went evey where. I had not given a thought to the explosive fumes I had sprayed in the oil bath air cleaner several minutes before still being there.

I know the feeling about checking for parts. I caught my foot somewhere on the platform and fell off the tractor. Landed on my elbow on blacktop and rolled into a rim and hit with my ear. Laid there for a while to see if I was still alive. My new machine has a handle.
