Nice trailer!! I hope it works out well for you!

I was also considering a dump trailer, but for the money, I recently decided I'd rather have an older dump truck. I know it's one more vehicle to insure and maintain, but I have a lot of hauling to do over the next two years while we build up our new property, and I'm sure I'll be able to sell it for nearly what I pay (or more!) when I'm done with it.

Incidentally, I'm looking for a decent dump truck in the Four Corners area if anyone should know of one. (CO/UT/NM/AZ) :)

Congrats! I think you're going to love it.

I have a Load Trail 14K, 16x8 standard height. I seriously considered getting a Lo-Pro, and I'm glad I didn't. It would have been handy a few times, but a problem many times. I will say that loaded with dirt, the trailer is too heavy for my Massey which only weighs about 4,500lbs (added a front counterweight not in the picture).

I'm very impressed with the build quality, and the only thing that I would change would be paint instead of powder coated. You can order one painted for no extra charge, but you have to get a dealer to order it that way and I think they have a bit of a lead time to get something ordered that way. I didn't want to wait, so I'll have to live with the powder coat. I have seen quite a few other dump trailers in person and I haven't seen anything that appeared to be made any better, and most weren't as nice.

I went with the Load Trail Deckover with fold down sides.

It was a hard choice, in that I liked the Diamond C being painted rather than PC'd. And it was 7gu. But it was a standard height trailer, and I, at this point, think the utility of the fold down sides, for my purposes, will make the ultimate difference.

If it doesn't turn out that way, at least I have something which will get me going again on my farm. I've been stymied in several projects, simply from lack of one.

Have you had a chance to use this yet? I'm curious about the folding sides. Easy to use as a flat bed? Does stuff get jammed in the hinge/joints? Any downside to folding sides other than cost?

I bought a PJ DS dump PJ Trailers | 91" Deckover Dump a little over a year ago and I love it. I got it to primarily haul my 50HP New Holland Boomer, but I've been using the dump more and more. It has a 16' deck with removable sides, and a gooseneck. I upgraded to the 8k axles and 17.5 tires so I would never worry about tire issues. The 215/75-17.5 tires are rated at 4800lbs each! The only drawback I've noticed is the scissor lift has only a single hydraulic cylinder, whereas the dual wheeled dumps usually have 2. I had 3 cords of almond firewood stacked just barely above the 36" sides and the thing strained to get the bed off the chassis. I had to lift by hand and the extra 100+lbs I was giving it was enough to do the job. If I was hauling a lot of gravel, I may consider the dual dump since the cost wasn't much more. On the other hand, my DS handles 5 yards of crushed concrete road base with absolutely no problems. I vote for the GN and as for the high center of gravity... I haven't been worried about tipping in the least bit. I've always been the type to buy more than what I need, than to repeatedly overload a smaller trailer

Be careful! We had the same trailer, bought brand new. We had it a little over a year.. we had it lifted all the way to the top, mostly empty, and the lift snapped! Could've killed my ex had he not got out of the way quick enough. Totaled the trailer! The battery was always dead too..

I'll do a little better review of my trailer in a week or so. But I've used it enough to have a few things to say about it.

1st - The fold down sides are working out very well. Nothing caught up in the gap. They are heavy, not anything that can't be lifted, but the first time I put them back up, I was surprised at the weight. I don't think this would put many folks off, but be sure you can handle the weight before you purchase.

2nd - I do have a few issues which I elaborate upon in a more thorough review. My first issue is with the barn door catching mechanism, to keep the doors from swinging closed during the dump. Load Trail's choice is crap... there is no better way to say it. It seems like it would work, but the execution and quality control was completely missed on this trailer. Basically, it is a small 'catch' right at the hinge, which is supposed to drop down over the open door hinge and prevent it from swinging forward. (I'll take a picture for my review.) However, the spring they put on this BRAND NEW TRAILER is rusted and weak as all get out, so it doesn't hook down with any pressure and simply rides up over the latch catch. And second, the Powder coating and weld is so thick and bulbous that rather than a crisp angle to catch over, it is more like a rounded ball. - The upshot is that my son, working alone, didn't recognize that the off hand door had swung down and he bent the door hinge within the first week of use. We remedied it with bungee cords for the moment, but I have to say, this one aspect would probably cause me to go with another manufacturer. It is such weak design and execution.

OK... now that that frustration is out of my blood...

Other than that, the trailer is working very well. The barn door gate bottom does sit just slightly high, leaving a 1/4" lip, over which things must slide. This catches things almost every time. Simple fix, but again, this is a lazy work, design, and QC issue that bothers me in an $8K brand new trailer. I did not know to look for it when I purchased. I will have to adjust the doors to fix the issue.

The lift is great. Nothing has given it problems. The height has not shown to be unstable in the least, and I've trailered it along side hills loaded, watching for any issue. I added a 2nd battery and solar charger/conditioner before I began using it, but have had no issues with dead battery. I use 'gravity down' each time, to save on the charge.

I'd rather it not be powder coated, but it what was available and I needed to get a trailer.

All in all, given what I know now, I would have looked more carefully at these things on all the trailers.

As I said, I will give a more thorough review in a week or two.

piaffepony;

Was the trailer under warranty, did the manufacture help out in any way?

I'd be interested in seeing the picture, because it sounds different from the setup on my trailer...can't imagine why they would have changed.

I have a LoadTrail 16' 14k "King size" dump trailer. The sides flare out wider to allow for increased volume and room to maneuver around your equipment. It doesn't allow you to carry extra weight, but definitely helps for extra volume. I think my PJ trailers are of better quality than my LoadTrail, but i think LoadTrail is the only Mfg that offers this "King size" option.

This could be the right trailer for you if you need increased "light material' space.
