Dump trailer hauling my tractor

FYI the set up is legal and safe. May not be for you but.....my neighbor is CHP truck inspector and he see no problem with this setup. Trailer has 6ft tongue, with enough room for FEL so I can maneuver without interference with rear of truck, and backhoe extends 22" from rear of trailer which is legal. If it makes you feel any better, I now have a 16' Lamar gooseneck. Perhaps I have evolved.

Never said it wasn’t legal but we would argue for days about the safety and it wouldn’t be the first time something legal wasn’t safe!


Don’t be offended because someone doesn’t agree with you or think what your doing isn’t the best approach as I’m sure there are things I have done, still do and will do that you won’t be too quick to do yourself or even agree could be safely done.

Have fun towing your tractor any way you see fit just don’t expect me to sit at the sidelines and be quiet when I think the advice your giving directly or indirectly is not good advice.

The trailer weight capacity is fine, the truck towing capacity is fine, the stick out off the back is fine. If the weight distribution and chain angles are satisfactory which is the big if in the setup what’s the problem?

Everyone I know who has used thier trailer in this manner has found issues. Most find the wieght distribution not to be ideal and all have quickly moved to better trailers.

That’s the only likely flaw in his setup besides limited ability to chain it. If both of those things are alright what’s the problem? The weight distribution probably isn’t terrible. The back tire is pretty close to centered between the axels.

I have a 8 ft dump trailer single axle, which is a much different beast than a dual axle 10 ft, I rented a toro dingo this weekend. Yes the dingo fit, but the balance was far from ideal, especially with my chevy traverse tow vehicle. My old tacoma would have been better because it could have handled more tounge weight.
