I'm looking at a dump trailer project and I'm in need of some parts for the project. I was hoping some member could point me twords a source tailgate parts and the bed pivots. I'd like to use the traditional two way tailgate with lever release.

Yea, I'm familiar with they thread. I was really hoping to not be reverse engineering a tailgate...

I'm not sure if this will be of any help but, Madreferee did upgrades to the Country Mfg dump trailer which, I think, included a top-hinged tailgate. It's been several months ago and it might be worth a search ... as opposed to total reverse-engineering ...

Na, I couldn't find it. Maybe it's just me, but the boards search feature doesn't seem to work very well. I've tried to search for posts that I've made it won't find them. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

The biggest problem with a top hinge tailgate on a dump bed is having a release that won't bind up with weight against it.

Somewhere on here I'm sure I've got some pictures of my solution.

Basically I extended the hinge point as high as practical. I then ran a rod under the bed the full width of the bed. At one side the rod had a handle. At two points in the width of the bed I had tabs with rods welded to the rod. The rods were shaped like lazy "L's" with the short leg up.

With the handle in the secured position the short leg of the "L's" secure the gate. Any weight against the gate just makes the release easier than harder.

I used one inch bolts with nylock nuts for the top hinges. In ten years or so the tailgate has been removed a couple of times. But when necessary it can be done easily.

You just didn't look hard enough. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Take a look at this thread.

Swinging tailgate for dump wagon

The swinging mechanism is quite simple as you can see from the pictures in the above thread. If I had to do it over I would have made the tailgate 6" to 9" higher to allow for faster dumping.

Thanks for the link. I searched. I searched using "Country Manufacturing", "Country Mfg.", "tailgate" and even searched through all of your posts. Never found the thread...

Make sure to change the date range to "ALL POSTS" when searching...it defaults to only one week. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
