Dump Trailer Purchased - now questions

It has the tarp kit. One of my reasons for buying is I need gravel and dirt in places a dump truck can not get to, but my truck or tractor can. Wow, no charge for delivery? My last load of gravel I had delivered was $320 - $180 of that was delivery. That said, if I need to gravel the entire driveway, I'm having a dump truck bring that in
My local gravel place sells by the yard and is actually cheaper per yard for delivery because of a 10 yard delivery minimum

They have a fixed price which probably includes delivery if you are local. The cost per full load delivered would probably be much less compared to the customer driving back and forth all day with smaller loads. On my one load the weight limit was hit for my 14K trailer with less than half a load due to the weight of the gravel.

Hauling stone in a dump trailer is a waste of time unless you only need one load. I pay around $150 for a 22 ton delivery and it was around $100 pre Covid. At 3-4 tons per trip you’d need 6 loads to get the same amount done. Are you going to haul for $25 per trip? A lot of quarries will charge a premium to load smaller loads which will further reduce if not completely wipe out any savings.

It should work well for your plans. Dump trailers are very useful. I've gotten a lot of use out of mine. Just recently I cut up two downed oaks and backed my trailer with the tractor down a steep hill to load up all the branches that I can't use for fire wood and dumped it into a burn pile instead of using the tractor back and forth with the grapple. Saved lots of time and diesel.

Dang you guys suck, I want to gouge my eyes out after seeing your prices you pay. Here in SE Michigan 24 yards (1 semi lead ) of what we call 21a “driveway gravel “ is around $680 !!! Our pits charge $21.50 a ton. The local place that has it shipped in by water charges $16.80 a ton.

What do you carry in the trailers battery / tool box? I am putting a pair of chock clicks in there…

Be careful! The kids thought they were "helping" by placing several straps and ratchets in the battery / tool box. I had to explain what would happen if those metal ratchets were to touch both battery terminals, or the positive terminal and the side of the box.

First things first safety vest and hard hat. Just keep them in the truck. If you need to exit your vehicle for anything a vest is required some places require hard hats as well.

This is excellent advice. I used to run a loader and always appreciated it when people wore a high visibility vest.

Thank you! I think I just found another use :)

Nothing like sparks to get the heart racing!

I do not have a standard HiVis vest, but till I get one i'll throw my hunter orange vest in there!

When in the pits , if you hear a backup beeper your head should be swiveling to see where it’s at. We just had a loader operator smash the box in on the dump truck I run. The owner was waiting in the line to get loaded for probably 10 minutes. A careless operator just flying around not paying attention. You are in a much smaller vehicle then a tri axle dump or trains.
