Does anyone out there have a dump trailer? Thinking about a gooseneck in the 14000lbs range. Maybe 14-16 feet long. Any thoughts or input greatly appreciated. Thanks.

As long as you aren't using it on steep slopes or in the mud it will work great.

I have 2 a 16' tandem axle gooseneck and a 20' dual tandem gooseneck . ... My 16' the red one is a 1972 model we picked up for a steal . And we gave it a over haul and face lift . We bought it and the other to do hurricane storm clean up . They both have removable sides . Here's my 16' looking for pics of my 20' . I will say this get one with remove able sides . Weld side make them real narrowed to use .
The red one I have 1' , 3' , 4' and then another 4' that goes on the first 4' to make it 8' as pictured .

My 20' is the black one I run the 1' sides most the time . But have the stock 4' then another 4' to go on them to make 8'sides .

Look at them close, there is a lot of differences between brands - type of lifts, size for hydro system, thickness of steel, etc...
I really looked hard at buying one but I don't haul enough to justify the cost. Figure on the cheap side 7K, plus plates, plus insurance every year. My local stone yard will bring me 20 tons of gravel for $30, figured to I spent $8 in diesel to get there and back I only have $22 in the fee, then add I would need two trips to get the same as their dump so now I got $16 in it so it costs me $14. Not really worth my time and that does not even count the cost of the trailer and everything else.
Now if you haul daily or use it to make money totally different game, or me, the 6-8 loads a year didn't make it worth it.
Just some thoughts.....

My black one is used to haul melons now more than anything else . It's a PJ brand they make the stoutest we seen that's why we bought that brand . I live about 1 and a half from 5-10 different company's and it was the one we liked .

Buying removable side ones make them able to be used for any thing .

I have winches mounted on both on the necks also that I use to haul old rigs I buy that don't run . There's just tons of uses for them .

Our first dump was a bumper pull 10' EZ Dumper and was just junk. Couldn't even come close to lifting its rated load. It was a 5 ton trailer and weighed around one ton itself so it should have been able to dump 4 ton but if you even came close to 3 ton it would just moan and go back to bed. Was great for demolition debris on jobsites as long as it was mostly wood.

Well the EZ Dumper lasted 10 years before I finally got tired of fighting with it and the thing was rusted like crazy. I had been looking to replace it for a few years and been looking over a lot of different brands. Like you I found PJ had the best trailer available (at least as far as I have found locally). The paint isn't great but it is holding up better then the EZ Dumper did. Mine is a 14' Low-Pro (24" Deck height) bumper pull rated at 7 ton. I have filled it with corn, stone, sand and mud and have never had trouble dumping the load. Getting stuck is a different story, that thing is so low it is easy to get stuck but that is a trade off I had to make given our use. I paid around $9k for mine early in 2012. I haven't regretted it at all. The runner up was a Moritz brand and they were considerably more money for a trailer that didn't really stand out as better then a PJ.

I run bumper pulls because we use them on the farm and on construction sites and we need to keep the box of the truck open for other materials.

My pj 20' cost $10,500 new 2005 I believe. . It's a great trailer the powder coating is holding up great . I have dump over 20,000 pound loads with . No problem . I did have to go to 14 ply tires for it hauling melons .

The paint is flaking off on the tail gate along the underside of the top edge and it came off in sheets in the bed. The rest is holding up decent. I don't expect it to be a problem. The bed I knew was going to get the worst abuse but was surprised to see if fall off so fast. I expected it to get worn off.

I have a smaller dump trailer and use it often, one of my better buys. My trailer dealer recommended a PJ when I needed a car hauler, but said he stocks Midsota for dump trailers because of stronger construction. Did some comparison shopping and saw what he meant. My PJ trailer is getting a bit rusty while the Midsota still looks excellent - they were purchased 6 months apart and ave seen about the same amount (very little) winter salty road use.
