Dumpster Cleanup

Ah whatever, the guy wanted to get rid of his mess and not worry with it anymore. I would have done what he did just to avoid the hassle. He saved a lot of money doing the work himself.

Well, if he didn't want to bother, he should have just hired a company to do all the work.

I don't know about you, but I could have saved the $1000 or so dumpster fee with a whole lot less work than I have to normally put in to earn $1000, especially after taxes.

I may not be much of an environmentalist, but that much usable material going into a landfill makes me sick. Its hardly a laudable accomplishment.

I have bought over $1000 of rock last week for fill.. That dumpster made my mouth water. Oh well if we just could get that "matter transporter thingy" working I would have taken all of that load down here in Missouri:)

I had to laugh at the irony of your post. I know your area well, your land is 99% rock and 1% dirt....and you had to buy more rock!! :)

Kind of like living on a lake and buying water to drink :). Ooops, that one almost works for you also!!!!

Hahaha. Pay no mind to me, I am in one of those moods this morn :).

I know it is ironic isn't it? rock shelf everywhere and I am buying rocks.. I also still have a lot of really big decorative type rocks on the place. We have used a lot of them around, but there are more! But I need rock fill. I have been spreading a load of rock every evening after work. I have almost 40 hours on my "new" tractor. The lake is about a mile away. Don't do me much good either:laughing:

OK, I better jump in and clear things up...

True, you are seeing a few good pieces of rock on top, but that was not the majority of the load. There was a small pile of what you would call "good rocks" that we thrown away, but the rest was just junk. Most of the good rocks were thrown away towards the end of the cleanup so that is why you see them on top.

Most of the load consisted of:
Broken concrete (from an old fire pit)
Broken masonry (again from a fire pit)
Stumps (every single one I have ever posted pics of on TBN)
Big pieces of tree trunks
Various demolition debris and household junk...etc...

Don't think there is a big market for the above...;)

Really makes me smile to read all the comments.
I kept thinking about the saying

"one man's trash is another man's treasure"

Can't tell you how many times I have thrown out stuff to see other people pick it up and then how many times I have stopped and picked up stuff that other people have thrown out. It probably equals out - so I really never reduce my amount of stuff/trash - I just swap it for different stuff/treasure - Grin)

I know one thing, you spent some seat time loading that dumpster
Great thread and post -
Thanks

Not too far from me there is a guy that owns an old quarry. He will take any "hard" rubble or dirt for a flat dumping fee. Granite Construction will also take hard demo material for a low cost. They regrind it and use it for road base.
