Yeh Dragon, the part just above the hood is an aluminum semi-rigid duct, you could bend it whatever way you want. The negative to that though, I think it leaks a little bit.

Truth be told, if I was to build the fume extractor again from scratch, I would do it even simpler and cheaper. I would just use a 6" flexible duct all the way. Unlike the semi-rigid duct, flexible duct is leak-proof. I would go with the hood, a short extension, the fan, and from there use the flexible duct running all the way out the window.
