Anyone have one?

How would they be for hardwood floors?

Saw a new ad on TV for their "ball" vaccum cleaner, and couldn't help but think that would be useful and what a great idea. Just not sure of the tier level with this brand.

Looking at the expensive one for "pets" (around $550 at the box store). That said, not sure if I'd just be better off getting their cheaper one for $350.

I picked up Dyson's portable hand unit (like the dirt devil) and although it was expensive (about $150) my wife and I really love it. Hate to say it, but worth the extra money over another brand.

Thanks!

I've got the DC15 I think. the purple one that is supposed to be for pets. I really like it. I'm always amazed how much dirt is pulled out of my carpets. It works pretty good on my tile floors, which I would think would be a lot like hardwood.

We bought the Purple Dyson for Pets years ago.

We had a top of the line Kenmore that was not getting up the dog hair. The Dyson does get up the dog hair. No comparison between the two. And with the Dyson no more vacuum bags. Just empty the container in the trash and you are back working.

We have a German Shedder and the old vacuum would quickly clog up with the dog hair. They Dyson does not. When we bought the Dyson we had three large dogs and hair was a major problem. The Dyson could at least work more than a few minutes before filling up and requiring a new bag. Carpet and dog hair is just problematic. We dont have carpet in the new house since it just holds dirt.

We don't have hardwood but we do have colored concrete which is pretty close for a vacuum.:D The Dyson works fine on the concrete as well as the old carpet. It was a good buy and we have not had any problems and it gets used. With two kids and now two dogs the Dyson is used frequently.

Where do you buy Dyson? I've seen their ads on TV, but never really took them seriously. We have concrete floors and are constantly sweeping them. Too much dirt out here, and unfortunately, I'm the worse offender at bringing it into the house. We've spent plenty on three diferent vacumes so far and they are all junk. Steph is wanting the Orick (spellling?) that she used at her mom's, but they have carpet and live on a golf course. No red clay on concrete to deal with, so we've been hesitant to buy another lousy vacume cleaner.

Thanks,
Eddie

Eddie, I've seen them at Lowes, SamsClub & Sears.
Interesting feedback so far. We have 6 dogs & hair is a huge issue.
Anyone using the Rug Doctor cleaner. Our Hoover carpet cleaner gets a real workout. There has got to be better out there.

We picked up the Dyson DC15 (the ball) about a year ago. It cleans the carpet like nothing we've ever had. It also has a setting on it for hard floors and we use it on the wood floor in the dining room.

We have 2 cats and 2 Basset hounds so the hair gets pretty thick even with constant brushing and this machine gets it up like we had zero animals. It's by far the best vacuum we've ever owned.

We bought the Dyson at Bed Bath and Beyond. At the time we had a 20% off coupon which the store sends us frequently. Unfortunately I don't think they allow the coupon's use when buying a Dyson anymore.

I might have seen Dyson's at Lowes.

With 5 kids and 3 dogs and a large home, I have several vacuums. I've always had pretty good luck going by what Consumer Reports say in their vacuum testing. They test the vacuum on all sorts of surfaces and test them in their ability to pick up all sorts of items; like pet hair. Dyson consistently rates mid pack or worse. I've never owned one, so I can't comment on them from any personal experience. I just have to seriously question why vacuums costing half as much have always rated far higher. There are 9 vacuums they tested that cost less that are rated higher at picking up pet hair. The Dyson vacuum does rate well for picking up loose dust and dirt on hard surfaces.

We used our tax rebate check to buy "the ball" from Dyson. I don't know what the model number was, but it was the full size, not the one for pets though. It does an amazing job and my wife loves it. I can't believe the dirt it picks up. My aunt just bought the compact model of the ball on our recommendation. She wanted something lighter for carrying up and down stairs. Ours doesn't seem heavy to us, but my aunt recently had double knee replacement, so she's more aware of stairs than us.

My grandpa bought an Oreck a couple years back and he is not happy with it. It's too heavy for him and doesn't clean any better than his previous vacuum, a lightweight Dirt Devil.

We ordered our Dyson direct from the Dyson website. This was right when the "ball" model came out and Walmart didn't carry it yet. We paid $499 and I think Walmart probably has them cheaper, but we got free shipping and paid no tax. It showed up in about a week. They shipped it requiring a signature on delivery, so keep that in mind.

The "Ball" feature is really nice. We weren't sure how it would work out, but it works great. I'm 6'4" though, and I find it a bit too short for me to use. Fortunately, the wife is shorter ;)

I've seen Dyson other places, but the Sears store in Lewisville, TX, has more of them than I've seen anywhere else.
