E. Hydro Trans on 5000 and up?

I think the real, cutoff between a "utility" tractor and a "crop" tractor is; are you dragging heavy iron across a field spring and fall?

If the answer is yes.. You don't really want an eHydro transmission. Not, until you've got enough "smoke" under the hood to go all the way to an IVT.

I don't that often. I've got a little hay to put up and pastures.

I'd think pretty hard about trading in my 5075M for an eHydro model!

I'm in complete agreement with this

I would expect to see an Ehydro offered in the larger tractors soon. Almost everyone finds them easier to operate in close quarters and should point out the popularity of hydrostatic transmissions in industrial equipment. I don't see dozers being offered today with gear transmissions and some of these are high horsepower too. While the hydrostatic transmissions are slightly less efficient with fuel that is less of a consideration than the motion control advantages overall. Years ago most farm tractors didn't have a fel, today everyone want's a fel and the hydro is a plus for this type of work.

I would reiterate that I expect the hydro trannies to be offered along with the reverser and IVT transmissions, so you would have a choice to decide what works best for you. I also suspect that the costs for production and assembly of the Ehydro may be less than the cost of the multi gear tractors and have a lot fewer parts to machine, lots of parts in a 32speed direction reverser transmission.

I'm not real picky though I will graciously accept a new 6000 series with a 9 speed dry clutch set up if any one want's to give it to me.

Where is your dignity? You should hold out for an Autoquad tranny at least:dance1:

I know it's a pipe dream but i'd love to have an IVT and a little more "smoke" in my 2720 when tilling long skinny gardens.

why would you want an hst tranny in 5000 jds.the power reverser works better than the hst would.plus its alot easier to run.

That would depend on what one was doing. There's a Kubota L3940 that used here everyday for feeding 40 feed of breeding cattle and various small jobs around the farm. The hydro can't be beat for what it's used for here and what it does here. Then there's a JD 5065M 16F/16R with PowerReverser it's great for what it does: some discbine mowing, tedding, raking and grain drilling. There's also a tractor here with 16F/12R full Power Shift, great for field work and round baling and running the discbine. But i have to say the most maneuverable, most nimble, easiest to operate, smoothest to operate tractor here is by far the Hydro.

As far as larger Hydro's, IH made in the '70's don't see why they can't now: TractorData.com International Harvester Hydro 186 tractor information

A HST is about 15% less efficient than a gear tractor (counting power shift type suff as a gear). That trade off is definitely worth it for the flexibility, ease of use & precision of operation for a SCUT & CUT. They are utility tractors designed to be versatile & do a lot of different things.

Once you break the 50-60 HP mark you are entering ag tractor territory. They are optimized for pulling heavy things for long hours. Precision & flexibility are of less value there than shaving 15% off your fuel bill or getting done 15% faster.

They can make a HST for that purpose that will carry the HP without blowing up. Some multi hundred HP mining gear has a HST. But again, different operational drivers.

Personally for my 32hp machine I don't think a HST can be beat.

I have a 60 hp HST machine ballasted to 8,000 pounds, and what a joy it is use use and operate over a power shuttle. I'm willing to bet that clearing snow, my 60 hp machine is physically faster, and certainly easier to operate than the small, 135hp, power-shuttle, crop-row tractor with a hand throttle and foot throttle just like the 5000 series.

5:00 in and you'll hear my remarks comparing a power shuttle to HST machine.
