I believe there a earth quake fault located in Franklin,New Hampshire..so that would put us about on each side of the fault almost in the middle.

There hasn't been any news on the tv yet about the earth quake and how much it registered, but this I know...we just finish picking things up from the floor and the chairs, counters etc..and the cat still hiding...it was a corker for sure.

The northeast does have quite a bit of falts in the area. We have just been REAL lucky. Sounds like you had it wurce then we did. Nothing fell, just shuck like crazy.

5.1. Came from about 17 miles south of Platsburg NY. Thats what the news just sied.

/ EARTH QUAKE #8
Wow !! 5.1 is pretty good size. If this keeps up we will have to get rubber foundations for our houses.

Thomas,
You didn't spill any coffee I hope ???

Thomas, I just saw that on the news. Wow, hope all is well for you Easterners! The news reported no major damage or injuries, so hopefully it was nothing more than a fun ride for you. Didn't spill too much coffee did you /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

What? You have earthquakes in New Hampshire? /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

Thought we were supposed to keep them all here in California.

Yeah, Thomas, they can literally rattle your nerves. Living where I do, I could tell you stories.

Haven't had a good one out here for quite some time. Uh-oh ... /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif

Sorry to hear about the burns, Derek. I think burns may be the most painful injuries you can get; or they have been for me anyway.

/ EARTH QUAKE #13
Yes, I felt it in Cambridge, New York. Thought it was first my tennant farmer rolling up the driveway with his JD4440 ag tractor. But, then windows started shaking and glasses rattled in the kitchen cupboards. No visible damage....but dang, this was a bit exciting. My first real earthquake that I actually felt. Hope no one out there sustained any injuries or serious damage to their properties.

Ditto what Bird said Derek. Burns really are no fun. I had to get skin grafts on both my right and left arms from work. NO fun at all. Hot steel got the better of me a few years back.

How in the heck did ya do that a backfire?

Hope your feeling better
Gordon

Has anybody heard of damage from this northeastern earthquake? It was pretty high on the scale.

It was 5.1 to 5.5 on the Richter scale.

Looks like some damage around the epicenter (pic is from CNN).
I'm just SE of York, PA. We didn't feel a thing, but CNN said it was felt as far south as Baltimore, MD.

I felt it this morning and I am a couple miles from lake Erie and the PA border in the farthest corner of NY. At the time we had thunderstorms so we thought it was just a loud thunder till we started watching the news and seen it was an earthquake. First one I have ever felt but it did shake things pretty good for about 10 seconds. I haven't heard of any damage so hopefully everyone is ok. Take care and sorry to hear you slopped some of your coffee.

No damage in NH that I am aware of, and haven't really heard anything on the radio.
I was sitting in one of the local resteraunts where I go every morning at 6:00 am to gather and solve some of the worlds problems and create a few new ones. Everything just started shaking like things do when your washing machine is out of balance. Nobody in the resteraunt really gave it a second thought, A few of us went, Hmmm, earthquake and then went back to drinking coffee.
Just another day in New England /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Very interesting site, Mark. Glad to see I'm in one of the least hazardous areas for earthquakes. Now if the tornadoes, wind, hail, and lightning don't get us . . ../w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif
