I'm sure I wouldn't to go thru and earth quake such as you did Harv..yikes.

No warnings of an earth quake than facing number of after shocks.

I was in Hinesburg VT over the weekend (about 40-50 miles from the epicenter as the crow flies). We were treated to a pretty good ride for about 30 seconds, but Pete is right, it was the sound that was really incredible! Like standing next to a speeding freight train while a jumbo jet flies directly over head... According to the local paper up there, the sound was due to the depth of the quake (or rather the lack of depth). This quake was about 3 miles deep, CA quakes are usually much deeper.

No competition for Harv's pictures though... I imagine there was more than one pair of shorts soiled that day!

Harv, That must have been one heck of a 'quake. I see that many of your PCs were so horribly damaged that they now look like Apples./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Actually, they started out as Apples, but after the quake they were so badly damaged we just used them to simulate PC's. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

(Uh-oh... inflammatory, trolling, etc. I hope one of those pesky moderators doesn't see this. /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif)

Just had moderate (5.2) earthquake here in (surprise) California.

Now, I was sitting quietly in front of the TV and didn't feel a dang thing, but according to the news, it was felt quite strongly a little ways south of me in the San Jose area, so we might get a report from GlueGuy on this.

Ironically, the guy who may have felt it real good is our good buddy hayden from New Hampshire. I happen to know he was in San Jose on business today 'cuz we tried to (but couldn't) get together to swap tractor stories.

Hey, Peter! Howja like your visit?

Gotta tip my hat to you folks on the other sea coast to put up w/those earth quakes as often as you do.

Watch our local news station this morning and nothing was even mention /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif and I hope nobody got hurt.

Now see, Thomas, that's the part I don't understand. This particular quake knocked stuff off of some store shelves, and one house burned (no one hurt) maybe due to the quake breaking a gas line, but that was about it. That was considered a "significant" earthquake.

Our last significant quake was in 1989.

Now how does that compare to folks who live in tornado, hurricane, flood or even heavy snow regions?

I just don't get it.

The Gilroy quake was about 6 miles from home - no damage. The local Wal-mart had the pipes for the fire sprinklers break - about 1/2 inch of water on the floor. There was some damaged goods in some of the stores at the outlets.

I believe the closes thing we can come to an earth quake would be an major ice storm in the dead of winter, but at least there some sort of a warning.

When mother nature or mother earth gets little /w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif the best thing we all can do is hang in there.
