Well i ordered one, hopefully it gets here before memorial day. I'll let you know how it works. Says it has a 30 day money back guarantee, so guess I can send it back if I don't like it.

I think you will be happy with the precision planter. I'll be planting my corn, beans, peas and carrots this weekend. I'll wait for the first week of June to plant my tomatoes, pumpkins and squash as we have been getting light frosts most mornings this week.

Well, planted the corn with it yesterday. I dunno if the seed I have is small for sweet corn or what but with the "Sweet Corn - Med." plate it was doing multiple drops every time, 2 even 3 kernels. I took the beet plate, taped off every other hole and it pretty much worked perfectly if you went slow enough. Too fast and the kernels would fall out of the holes before the drop. Very few multiple drops and very few misses using that plate.... just slower than I would like but still waaaay faster and easier on the back than hand planting :)

I was looking at ebay for plates this morning and I think the corn plate up there looks different than the one I have... will have to check part numbers.

One question, how do you gage your depth? The online manual I downloaded says there are marks on there somewhere but I couldn't find any.

i've used it. it just kinda sits on the seeder. you can't fertilize and seed in the same pass but it does place the fertilizer next to the row you planted if you drive it right. you can set the little digger part of the seeder to the depth you want the fertilizer to be placed. you can adjust the flow rate.

Hmmm... I wonder how much fertilizer do you really need? With granular fertilizer could you just use say the radish plate and put a line of fertilizer right next to your line of crops??

I've never owned a Earthway. But I've also been looking into some sort of planter to plant my garden. What I am finding is precision=$$$. Also the shape of the corn seed doesn't cooperate with a precision planter too well either. A company called Solex is making a planter that is 100% identical to the old Cole planters. A new Planet Jr. made by Solex runs about $400 (shipping included). I think they make a 12 MX Multiflex too but I'm not sure on the cost.
