I'm not sure why Yanmar tractors have such a bad time with stuck clutches but they do. About 10% - 15% of the tractors we get in are stuck. We get about 3 calls per week from customers that want to buy clutches because they are stuck. I thought I might throw this little trick in here and maybe it will help someone.

Most of the time they can be broke loose with a stomp on the brakes but some will just not come loose. We found an old rusty 5' brush mower does the trick every time. Shut the tractor off. Push it up to the mower. Hook the PTO up to it (dont even need the 3 point arms or top link). Start it up with the PTO in gear. Throttle up quickly and then quickly down with the clutch pedal depressed. Not really good on mowers I'm sure, so you will probably want to try this on an old mower, but it easily breaks the clutch loose from the pressure plate. Be sure your transmission is in neutral.

Legal disclaimer- Because you have to start your tractor with the PTO in gear- this is probably not the safest thing to do, so if you cut your head off- dont blame me /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That will do it alright.

These tractors sit in the tractor yards in Japan for who knows how long. They get moisture in the bell housing and the clutch disc gets stuck to the pressure plate when the flywheel develops a little rust.

If a person goes to the trouble of splittling the tractor to unstick the clutch, use some very fine grit sand paper to clean up the pressure plate. If a tractor that has had a stuck clutch is allowed to set for 2 or 3 months without being ran like most people would do during the winter, the clutch is liable to get stuck again. Some of the Yanmars came with a small wooden block tied around the clutch pedal. This block was put there so that you could put it between the clutch pedal linkage and the footrest. It would hold the disc off of the pressure plate to prevent it from sticking.

I don't think yours is a stuck clutch. A clutch doesn't get stuck that quick.

We found it in other greys too. Had even more problem with the Ku..the kub....you know, the word we can't import anymore....as far as hytrans leaks around the shifter. Probably 25% had the vent blocked and shifter boot was first point of overflow when hot.

CLUTCH, Stuckus Undisengagus

Frequently happens due to salt air and exposure. 9 of 10 respond to this....let it run 30 minutes to get warm. Block clutch pedal completely down and let sit overnight. Cooler overnight temps combined with plates cooling down from being run almost always separate it (it's that old expansion-contraction thing from science class). Pedal HAS to be blocked down, keeping tension on it to separate. No shock, no trauma, no 8' bush hog to hook up. Seriously....almost always.
