You can go to jdparts.deere.com and view a parts catalog for your deck. If you register you can even get your local deere dealers pricing and check inventory of parts.

Next issue. I noticed one of the pulleys has rust in the groove area not shinny from belt wear. It's rusty enough feels like very course emery cloth /sand paper.

That much rust indicates the belt has been installed incorrectly or its a pulley that is not used. Are you sure the belt is being installed right or are you just copying what the previous owner did? By the way, a belt should not sit so deep into a groove that it touches the bottom. It should 'wedge' against the sides, so the sides will get shiny but not the bottom of the groove. Belts come in different widths so make sure its the correct width as well as the correct length.

While not much of a rider mower guy, I do know that rusted pulley will sure chew up a belt real fast.
You want those pulleys to be like a mirror, and free from any nicks as well.
Being real careful and using emery paper run the mower at low RPM with paper wrapped on a stick and polish the pulleys to a mirror finish.
I cured a pals belt chewing mower this way.
BUT careful is the word.

well I was trying to add a photo but new photobucket is way to advanced for me. why they change that chit I don't know
Anyhow the rust on the pulleys if from non use. Deck has been unused in storage for 10-15 years . aside faded paint looks new condition I believe my main problem is pulley alignment. I clean up the grooves, or might have to pick up one or two new pulleys

Spindle bearings.
I have them off the deck. They do not wiggle, seem tight. Should they make any noise when spin. Each one has a low metal on metal sound not grinding. Spin by hand they will only spin a complete turn or two. Diffinently not quiet or smooth like a motorcycle wheel bearing?
Two belts ruined now I have to buy a third. Deck is off for the third time. Should I just go ahead bring em in and have the dealer install all new bearings.
