Eating in the 50's

. Then again, many of the French-Canadians here like poutine, which is french fries with gravy & cheese. Equally yuck in my opinion.

Sounds like a heart attack recipe.

The first time I had biscuits and gravy was in 1985 trucking in the deep south. The same for grits.
As for poutine, it is not only french Canadians that like it. I do too but it must be made with cheese curd.

Reminds me of one of the first cruises we ever took. One morning we were having breakfast in the dining room, and I asked the waiter if they had any gravy. His reply? "Gravy? You mean Au Jus?" I just told him to forget it. We may have sailed from Galveston, but the crew was mostly from Romania.

C'mon, man, "Au Jus" is for the sophisticated individual! Ever heard of Prime Rib "Au Jus"?

Yep! Same thing for a "French Dip" roast beef sandwich on a long roll (bun). Yummo!

As for poutine, I know what it is and have had it once... I prefer to have chilli-cheese-fries during the winter months. :licking:

Anyone ever eat or remember bread pooding or rice pooding with rasens in it??

Rice pudding, sure. But no sultanas in it. Cinnamon for the WIN!

Home made by Mum.

Yep, I've had both since my mother used to make them when I was a kid. And I always liked them.

Wife makes both every now and then. Guess we're still livin' in the '50's.

Oh yeah. I love good prime rib, and believe it or not, I like a hot Arby's French dip. As for bread pudding, I love it too! Same for a good custard. Had dinner in a little seafood restaurant in Shreveport called simply "Bob's". They had the yummiest bread pudding with rum sauce I have ever eaten! Not only that, but they were selling a cookbook for $5.00 that had the recipe.
