Bob .. I just can't remember his name .. ya know, our fellow TBNer who's sig picture is one of him in a straw hat an overalls. He was gettin those auctions shut down left and right.

Wait ... it was "gws" and our trusty Hakim who were slayin the eBay dragons!

As of 4:28 EST, the original item reference in the first post of this thread is still active.

In the first box select: Report problems with other eBay members

In the second box select: Fraud concerns for buyers

In the last box select: Report a listing you think is fraudulent (you didn't bid)

YEA, I finally found the right way to report it. I did it. Let's see what happens. It ususally takes about a day or so. There are 6 days left on the auction, so hopefully it will be shut down long before it ends.

Just a side question, does Ebay notifiy the bidders that the auction was a scam???

I don't know if eBay notifies them, but I sent the last two bidders a "heads-up" and a link to this discussion. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I think that qualifies as "above and beyond the call of duty" but that may be exactly what will save one of those guys $15,000!!!

My question is how many items on ebay are a fraud that you all arn't catching? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I know of one because i got brunt on a hundred dollar item

They really need to make it easier to report suspicious items. They bury it so it takes a lot of work to find it. I've seen people selling photocopied manuals for big $$, also pirated software, in addition to these usual take-your-money-and-run scams.

The link I provided above is makes it pretty easy to report. I am sure the reason it is not easily found on their site is that they don't want to scare off customers to the fact that this happens to go on.

I am sure the percentage of scams vs. valid auctions is extremely small.

Dave

I would agree that the % of scams is probably pretty small. I've bought probably 75 items off of Ebay and probably sold half that many. I've had one instance where I began to wonder, but then the seller responded after a several day delay and shipped. I even bought a car on ebay.

I think the vast majority of the transactions are safe, I also think that with some big ticket items there is potential for a scam. You have to follow 2 golden rules . . .
#1. Buyer Beware
#2. There is a sucker born every minute

Response from seller (in NJ)

Hello
The serial number is lv4710h270525.It has e-hydro and it is pretty much fully equiped. It is also a 4x4 with 460 loader 139 hours.I am not a dealer...actually this is a private sale and I have not lister this tractor on any other wesites except ebay.
As you can see I am willing to deliver the tractor at my owns costs anywhere in the us.Of course that will be only after I receive a cashiers check or postal money order for the amount of $15.000 wich is my reserve price.
Please get back to me and let me know if you are interested
Thank You

Interesting answer, and sounds very normal. It certainly seems possible that this is a legitimate sale. But how would you explain the fact that the exact same tractor was listed before in West Virginia?

/ eBay: DROOOOOOOOL #33
Bob , I've never bought anything from ebay although I peruse it quite frequently. I just need to ask how a person could know for sure (by what is listed or replied to) if it is a scam or not. So if it seems legit, a person is supposed to send a cashiers check or money order and hope that a tractor shows up?

I think I'd want to see this deal in person, with backup if you know what I mean.

Is something legit or not is a gamble, but I think you can make an educated gamble. The most expensive thing I bought on Ebay was a new Volvo C70 convertible, I bought it a couple years ago. It was shipped to me from a new car dealer who happened to list it on Ebay. I've also bought computer hardware, tractor implements, Marklin toy trains, and Swiss watches on Ebay. But I only buy from people who have good feedback, who have a history of selling the same types of items that I am buying (never buy a tractor from a lady who only sells dolls) and who reply to my specific questions with very knowlegable and specific answers. Which means I will probably pass on a deal from someone who might be legit, and probably is, but doesn't really know what they are selling or who misrepresents a sale (people who list that their Ford 8N tractor is about 50 hp and then argue the point when you ask what was done to nearly double the hp rating).

Well, it evidently wasn't legit. Link now points to an "Invalid Item". /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Mike, I suggested this to Hakim in another scam thread. I doubt the TBN gate keepers would want to expend the money of extra disk space merely for posting eBay frauds, nor do I feel they should feel obligated to either!

That being said .. though .. it's a dirty job, and someone's gotta do it!

The typical victim, one who wouldn't know these as scams, would never see what hit them. Apparently, we are the only ones who give a rat's arse! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Like I said before, we should be collecting fees from eBay!

Now I know there are a people out there who know their tractors and DO NOT participate here on TBN, but they well may be in the minority!

It seems TBN has an unofficial dedicated task force for taking down auctions that are a scam. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

It is a dirty job but someone has to do it. eBay tractor scammers beware. The TBN internet detectives are on your tail.
