EBay has had numerous scams run on it--from the person who pays with a bogus cashier's check and gets the merchandise shipped overseas, to those who claim that they are from spain and will even pay the freight if you just wire them the money (funny how the money goes to romania or Russia), to those who claim to be from Nigeria and ask for your bank account number, name and routing number and then clean out your accout. Finally there's the overpayment with a bogus cashier's check where they ask you to wire the rest back. Initially your bank says the check is good, you wire the payment, then a week later your bank calls with the bad news.
EBAY mostly has a mediocre reputation when it comes to fraud. They mostly just don't get involved. Maybe they are trying harder now. Never, ever, buy or sell to someone out of the country.
