Bucket Hooks ECHO Chainsaw

   / ECHO Chainsaw #22
I've got an Echo string trimmer and a Stihl leaf blower. Both have been great. I'm getting ready to buy a chainsaw (or maybe a pole saw), and I'd be happy with either brand. May just flip a coin.

My big saws (50cc and 77cc) are Stihls, but I have two smaller Echos (32cc and 40cc). The Echos are great saws, and are consistently much easier starting than any Stihl I've run. I would not hesitate to buy another Echo in the future. Great saws.

About the only thing that will stop an Echo tool, in my case a pole saw,
is driving over it with the tractor. I hate it when that happens.

I've had an Echo CS-330T (14" 32cc) for over two years now. It's hands-down the best small-to-mid size saw I've owned.

I had some issues with it after the first couple of months, but took it to an Echo dealer for a free tune up and it has run literally like a banshee ever since. I cut about 20 16' flat bed trailers of brush with that thing this past winter - all stacked at least 5' high. I was amazed at how the 330T kept coming back for more.

And like others have said, you can operate these miniature beasts with one hand if you want. They will handle some serious stuff!

I've got a two year old CS-370 w/ 16" bar and it has been a great saw. Starts every time on 2nd pull (1 pull w/ choke closed, 1 pull w/ choke at 1/2). It's compact and lightweight and definitely outcuts its 37 CCs. I can lay it on an oak log and it will pull the full bar length through it under its own weight like a much bigger saw.

I only buy ethanol-free gas for my lawn equipment, so I haven't had any of the carb/fuel line issues that others report. But, I can attest to the lean settings out of the box. The EPA requirements have all of the manufacturers setting their products lean - so lean, in fact, that some folks report burning up the jug in just a year or two.

Of course, I would never dream of doing this, but I've HEARD that if you remove the muffler, drill out the cat, port the exhaust, and retune the carburetor (since the increased airflow would now have it running even leaner) that a little 37cc saw will run like a stock 45cc saw. Hypothetically speaking, of course.
Wouldn't want to upset the Nancy Bloombergs of the world.

Up here I started seeing Echoes about five years ago. When my forty year old 009 Stihl died I wanted a replacement top handle saw, but while I could find some Echoes at Home Depot, they didn't have the one I wanted, plus I wouldn't have the guts to show up at my Friendly Stihl dealer wanting Echo parts.....
Finally found an Echo dealer but he was two hours away so bought a little 170 Stihl.
The saw carrier on my tractor sticks out just enough for an oak tree branch to catch the handle of a new 170 and break the case of a three month old saw. Friendly dealer finally got another demolished saw with good parts for a rebuild, six months later....
