Well, it was almost unanimous.

Franklin and Builder were against it. Plus I got a PM from another TBN member voting "nay". I was still thinking it might work till I called Econoline and talked to a rep. I didn't tell them what kind of truck I had, I was honest and told them I was looking at a used unit and wanted their opinion as to how much truck I needed. He said at least a one ton because the unit was so heavy and had so much tongue weight.

So I'm gonna buy a new 14kgvw 20 + 5 over the wheel gooseneck tomorrow. Thanks for your input guys. You probably saved me from making a big mistake.

Duane and the guys saved you tons of money! You would have had to spend a bunch to upgrade the rear end of that truck to handle the tongue weight. Then you would have worn out your truck prematurely.

I stayed out of this thread because I know nothing about these types of trailers but I do tow lots of different configurations in my marine business on a daily basis and I could see the righting on the wall. You made a smart choice and will be money ahead in the first year knowing your new trailer has good brakes, bearings, tires, deck, wiring, ect, ect, ect. They can be money pits.

I don't like Econolines, but if that trailer was closer to me, I might consider it. That's a good deal for a healthy, used Econoline 12 tonner in good shape.

I probably need a 15 tonner, but a 12 might work.

I think you made a very smart move Beaux Duke. You now have all the trailer your truck can handle. Right tool for the right job.

I agree it wasn't the right trailer for you but it looked like a well built trailer in the pic if one could deal with the funky wheel setup.

as someone who had to change and inside wheel on one of those one time (with a disabled backhoe on the trailer) in extremely nice weather (as only we can get up here in North Dakota) that trailer would have pushed your truck thru the first intersection you had to stop or turn on ice at
was an excellent price for the trailer but like you even agreed too much for the truck
