I guess it's all about options and individual need. Last fall my son installed a 9kw LPG unit with auto transfer. The gen-set w/transfer panel ran around $2500.00
Since I don't need portability I'm starting to think that might be a better way to go. The older I get the less I like dragging these things out and hooking them up.


Another plus is once you go to all the trouble of installation the lights never go out. Somehow they know.

Do you more info on the surplus generator you mentioned? MEP-803

Just Google "military generator", lots of options in the mil surplus market. If you aren't in a hurry watch godove. None right now, but they come in waves. A few months ago there were hundreds.
