Economy series any good?

Amen, RR. Simple is OK, but sometimes simple does not have a scissor or air ride seat.

I would prefer the 4120 over the lesser equipped models, the 4X20 series are very easy to use and great for fel work. Alot of the upgrades do make it easier to use the tractor all day long getting more work done. Having had the simple tractors and the 4X20 series the upgraded tractors win hands down.

Here are some price quotes I have received over the past few weeks from several dealers. There has usually been a price range of about $500-$1000 for any given machine I priced. I'm giving the lowest price I have found. Final price could be a little lower if someone wants to make you a deal to move the machine, or could be higher if they have to order it, or if they are full service dealer with higher profit margin. I have also heard that the price for eHydro (if you have to order the machine from the factory) may be going up by $100-$200, if it hasn't already. All are priced with R4 Tires. (Note: You can also go to JD website and "build a machine" to compare suggested retail prices, but I thought actual quotes might be more helpful.)

So based on the numbers we have, it would seem a 4120 would be around $7K more expensive than a similarly equipped 4105 (I would say the 400 cx loader is a step up from the 300cx). If one took the 0% deal over 60 months (JD really looking to move machinery at the end of the fiscal year) this would equate to a $116 difference per month. As mentioned, I have never been one much for financing but in this case it seems tempting. My personal belief is the 4120 is worth $7K more than a 4105 but not all share this opinion. I am not sure a 3520 is not more capable than a 4105, and it has a much closer price. Certainly, if power to weight is a concern the 3720 has that in spades and will power a 485 backhoe (as will the 3520 also).

I guess part of the problem for me is i live in canada, so prices are slightly higher here.

A 4120 here is about $8,000 more than a 4105. One of my local dealerships sent me a email today stating they have a 2009 4320 coming in on trade, 400CX loader, 100 hours on the clock, for $24,000. I think that will be the machine i am going to snatch up. It comes with full warranty.

In canada we get screwed on financing! We only get 36 months at 0%, while everyone in the states is saying they get 60 months, huge difference to use someone elses money for 2 more years.

No question the 4320 you mention is the machine you should consider. As you know, buying a used machine, even with lower hours, is a chance encounter, but I will say my neighbor literally has thousands of hours on his 4320 and has had no trouble. I cannot express how good an engine the Power Tech JD engine is, not only for its performance but its durability. If the machine has not been sitting at the bottom of a farm pond for most of its life it should be a great choice for you. Sounds like you would be covered anyway by the warranty; you just do not want to have to use it.

This thread offers even more credance to my idea that today's USA is an automatic transmission world. Very few road vehicles have a clutch pedal these days and this is carrying over into the tractor world.

I used to travel to Europe a lot and there, most all cars have clutch pedals. In the US, very few vehicles have them any more. So, it just stands to reason that the masses will prefer the same in their tractors. In some cases it might even be an absolute requirement since many folks in today's US don't even know what to do with a clutch pedal.

I'm one of the five people left in the US that prefer a clutch pedal. Maybe I should change my moniker to "OddBall."

Same here, but I'm not going to change my nick.

Not sure where others are getting 5 year 0% financing here in the states. Over the past few weeks at several JD dealers the only 0% financing I have heard of is for 3 years. (Even with excellent credit rating.) Someone let me know if I am wrong on this or if they have heard that JD will be changing it soon. Perhaps it is different for different machines. (I was getting quotes for the 3520, 4105 and 4120.)

Back to Shuttle-Power Reverser Trans vs Hydro-- I am also fan of a clutch, but eHydro has won me over. Very easy to customize, extremely simple to use, and way easier on my left knee. I was talking to a 68 year old farmer here who has driven tractors all his life. His last tractor had eHydro, but he traded for another with Shuttle-Power Rev. I assumed that he didn't like the eHydro, so I asked him what he liked better. He misses the eHydro. Of course, eHydro costs $800-$1000 more, so it ain't free. Bottom line- in my opinion, it is really a personal preference, so again, I would strongly recommend to anyone that they test drive both before buying. And remember, all Hydrostatic Transmissions are not equal, so don't discount all of them based on one version. As I said earlier in the post, even the 4105 and 4120 hydros differ significantly. Just my humble two-cents.
