You don't use salt on your lawn in winter?

I'm the poster boy for not washing under my mower decks. About once a year I'll use a putty knife to knock off the dried clumps. I've never had a deck rust out. Push mowers, riders, etc..
My husky mower was used when we got it. I used it for 10 years and seems like Ive cleaned the deck once or twice. Blade hub bearing are getting worn but the deck seems fine as far as I can tell.

Of course not. Wouldn't that kill your lawn?

Same. I scrape mine every January, when I do the mower maintenance. Those last mowings in November are often damp, into evening. Hard on the deck, but it's all my schedule has allowed most of the last 15 years.

It starts to gets dark here at 5pm in the spring and fall due to DST. Many dark evenings in the fall spent riding the mower doing leaves just after dinner. Not so much in the spring.
Same.

no one is mowing at top speeds of 11-12 mph that zero turns can reach. If they say they are, I challenge their honesty
Challenge it all you want.
We mow at full stick/speed on at least half to 3/4 of our 8 acre lawn, the rest has rough area's or stuff to mow around we can't run full speed.

If you mow damp grass and the 'cud' builds up on the underside of the deck, at some point corrosion will get you Mossy. Bank on it.

I've never mowed or mulched leaves and we have a ton of mature trees. I just them all blow down the road into my farm field.

I will say one thing and that is, going from an M60 Cub Cadet 60" tank to a used Kubota F2880 front mount diesel mower was a learning curve. First off, the Kubota is very quiet, even my wife says all she can hear are the blades whizzing around. The 3 cylinder Kubota diesel has a huge muffler on it and going from a set of oars to a steering wheel (even though it's hydrostatic power steering was a challenge because it's really not a zero turn and the out front deck, while nice for getting under our many trees, I still find myself running into stuff so I'm glad it's a fabricated deck because I would bend a stamped one pretty quick. Ran into the side of my wife's Burb with it last week and I'll be paying to have that repaired. Didn't even take the paint off the Kubota but put a nice dent in the door. Like I said, there is a definite learning curve involved. It's a mowing fool though.
