Hi everyone. I just joined this formum and am looking foward to exchanging ideas with all you tractor experts. I own a 2004 JD4410 ehydro with loader that I use for maintaining a large vegetable garden and for farm maintenance.

I recently have encountered a problem with the cruise control which does not activate. When I press the Max position a fault code comes up for the brake switch. I replaced it with a new one but the problem still persists.
Anyone out there had any experience with this problem? I may have to take it in to the dealer:confused:.

What code did you have? I am assuming a long, short, long short? The manual says you can adjust the switch, so are you sure it is adjusted correctly? There are also two switches, the brake switch and the park brake switch, which did you replace? The adjustment says basically make sure they don't bottom out.

mfreund,
The code was as you described and the manual says that it is the brake switch. I replaced the S13 brake switch, not the park brake switch. I adjusted according to the manual and everything measured correct. What I don't understand is why I only get the fault code when the Max position is pressed and not the cruise position. Also I have to press the brake petal befor the code will activate. The purpose of the S13 brake switch is to allow for the cruise to be kicked out when the brakes are pressed. It is really simple but the code does not seem to be correct unless something is left out of the tech manual. I am wondering if the system needs to be recalibrated. I did talk to the dealer and they don't have an answer.

I was looking at the wiring diagram and learned something, I must have the standard cruise because I don't have max speed switch. I would do all the tests for the switches on pg 294-295(for cruise switches and brake switches) then I would check the voltages at the controller for the switches to rule out a broken wire. Wire 247 purple should have 12v with the brake switch on 0v with brake off. Wire 267 purple should have 12v with the max cruise switch on 0v at all other positions. Wire 238 gray whould have 12v with cruise on. If all that checks out I would take it to the dealer because it likely needs a controller and I think it is about $450 part. The rest of this you can check for free with a volt meter. I was hoping there was a connection between the two that would cause the condtion but I don't see one (wiring diagram pg 238) other than the controller. Sorry I could not help more:)

The Max position comes with the speedmatch option. I have checked the voltage outputs at the switchs and all checked out. I have not taken the connector off the controller yet and checked for the proper levels at that point yet. Thanks for your help. I hope that the controller is not bad. The manual says to do the active circuit tests the tractor needs to be up on jack stands and running in gear. I am hesitate to tackle this part by myself.

When I checked voltages at the controller I used a needle and back probed it and did not take the connector apart. I am at a loss where to go next to check, If you have it on stands make sure you have 4 stands as it is very tippy with only 2 and a jack. I learn from my experience. Hopefully someone else can take up where I left off!! Happy New Year!!
