EIGHT (8) MORE DAYS TILL RETIREMENT

When my guys asked me what I was going to do in retirement I told 'em I had 10 yrs of work waiting for me to get started on. I wasn't wrong and so far I'm good with it.;) Sitting down doing nothing is what kills retirees early.

I agree wholeheartedly. Enjoy the new chapter in your life!

I'm 13 months into my "retirement", since I think that retirement really means being covered with dirt. Till then it's doing all those things I wanted to do while being a wage slave. I really did like my job but it still interfered with all the fun things.
I really enjoy being with my wife all the time since I worked 23 years of rotating shifts.
Love setting our own schedule.
I have a good 5 years of work to get caught up with and am loving EVERY minute.
I am debt free and that was really important to me. To each his own and whatever gets you there, I'll be rooting for you.

Congratulations on your coming retirment. It sounds like you have worked hard for it. After my next door neighbor was retired for about a year he told me that he had so many projects he didn't know how he ever had time to work. ;)
I think the key to a healthy retirment is to stay busy doing what you like to do and maybe even trying a few new things to keep the mind sharp.
Good luck to you.

Counting the days now. Since I gave my notice I have actually been sleeping at night. Got to bed 1:30 yesterday morning and got up at 8:30. WOW. Have only been sleeping three to four hours since before the first of the year.

I directly supervise 25 to 42 people every night. These people are doing production work running machines. The rates and standards are very high. Then there are about a dozen more people who 'service'. That is bring materials to the machines and take finished product away. The area I am supposed to cover is what two supervisors had three years ago. Most of my people are new to the job just being trained in the past nine months. All the experienced people are on the day or midnight shift.

I have conflicts every night.

Now can you understand the meaning of the word STRESS !!

Yeah and your employer will e hiring two people to replace you ut will be paying them a third what you get so he will think he's saving money .....until the problems start rolling in from the inexperienced guys mistakes.....

Enjoy life now

Congratulations on the upcoming retirement. I remember when my Dad retired close to 30 years ago. From then, up until he passed away, he always wondered how he had time to work!!!!

He and Mom may have brought in less money after they retired, but they got a whole lot more enjoyment and value out of their time than they ever did while working.

I hope God Blesses you with the same opportunity!:)

.....

I have two pieces of advice for you: Never go to bed without accomplishing something, anything, during the day. And never go to bed without planning something to do the next day. It doesn't matter if you do it, just plan to do it.

Wow, brilliant advice and words to live by.

Congrats on the retirement. You will love it and finally have time to do all the things that need doing.
My retirement started in November after 42 years of high stress and managing other people. Enough was enough.
In retrospect, I wonder if it was worth all the extra work and aggravation of being an achiever in life? Maybe it's better to just make do with less in life.
Work at a job, sure, but have it play second fiddle to doing the fun things we want and enjoy ouselves first?

Congrats! now find your work gloves and get your "honeydo" list prioritized ...time to stop supervising and get to work. Difference is --you get to smile a lot over it.:D When my guys asked me what I was going to do in retirement I told 'em I had 10 yrs of work waiting for me to get started on. I wasn't wrong and so far I'm good with it.;) Sitting down doing nothing is what kills retirees early.

You hit THAT ONE right on the head...for 31 years I had a very active career, always moving around, never sitting for long, doing a lot of manual lifting, moving, pulling, pushing, etc. Been retired for over 8 years now, still get up at 5 am, not because I have to but because I want to enjoy the day. Might be my biased opinion but I think the folks who were active and on their feet during the time they spent working are better suited to being retired and staying active, than the folks who shuffled papers and stared at a computer screen all day would be.

A common saying I hear from other retired folks: "I don't know how I got anything done for ME when I was working...." SO TRUE.
