Those are some serious rocks. Around here, you could cover the costs of a entire lot of equipment by selling them to people for their landscape

That was my thought, too. The whole of our Island is sandstone (in varying stages of decomposition), so folks here will pay big bucks to get ahold of REAL rocks for landscaping.

Some pics as promised in the next two messages. First pic of my JD5325 with the Case CX130B. Second pic is the rock garden. The piles were accumulated during a tree clearing a few years back. Third pic is road at subsoil level with rocks on side getting ready to be buried tomorrow. Later in the day today I moved more rocks to the staging area with the Case ex and my JD with a grapple attachment ....... Gary
Very cool!! Can you head this way when you are done? I need a pond dug. :D

My buddy did this to dig a pond. Found out how slow he was when he had a friend who had a BIL that offered to come over and operate it for $20 per hour cash. He runs these things 40 hours a week. He said the operator could out work him by 30 to 40% which in the end put money back in his pocket.

By the way he is no machinery idiot. He has a Dozer and a BH of his own but this guy was just that much better.

rd - Around here plenty of folks have rocks. To get rocks to where people need them would be a large trucking cost and I think rock density would mean fewer rocks per haul. I'm keeping the smaller ones above ground for wall making as per wife's instruction....Gary

My digging skills are marginal and I tend to chicken out at around 8 ft depth. I've found that I have also made a few tactical mistakes on where to put the topsoil and subsoil to have them (a) out of the way and (b) near the point of reuse. Soooo I would be only good at making a shallow wading pool. I've also found you need a pretty good loader, or dump truck, to move volumes of soil which a pond project would need. Thanks for thinking of me but as I said I'm below rookie league.....Gary

Update and a few more pics. Have been able to speed up the digging and the logistics, aka where to pile stuff. By end of today should be half done with driveway. Essentially I box a trench at 8ft deep and 15ft wide and drop/push the rocks in. The largest one went in yesterday...see pics. This CX130B excavator is using about 6 gallons diesel for 7hr day on mostly low revs.........Gary

If someone told me they didn't have time to do something because they had to go home and bury rocks, I'd think they were pullin' my leg. Obviously, in your case, that ain't true. You have got to be the only person I ever knew who buried rocks. I'm sure there are others, but you are brave enough to post pictures.;)

What's the trick to packing fill dirt around the boulders to keep the driveway from settling again and again over the next few years? Seems like it would be difficult to get a solid pack that wouldn't settle after rains.

Those are nice land scape boulders. Sell them off to the landscape outfits. Looks like a fun project.

Agreed!

Those are some nice big rocks. Are you SURE if you placed an ad on CL that no one would come get them and pay $$$??
