I didn't think this thread would take off like it did. I've also picked up a few pointer. This has been the biggest (and most blind on my part) issue I've had with the charger. It's only been connected for the last 30 or so years, in the same place and always on. What's strange is the wire that was down is on a 5' no climb fence and that was in a section I thought was good. I'm going to be puzzling on that one for a while.

If you have an electric fence , you WILL have shorts. Found 2 today myself :(

I have a switch on every leg/corner of the fence. Go to the middle switch when fence is bad and apply Sandbur's diagnosis technique. Go halfway forward or back for next test. Took me 4 switch tests to find 2 shorts . Probably 25 switches in all of fence .

Grabbing the wire with the AC fencer working properly is something else altogether. I don't care how green the grass is, that just HURTS!

My wife has ZTR mower. You would not believe how far woman can jump after reversing to the fence in bikini.

BB, not to sidetrack, but what "legal problems? Heck a barbwire fence can actually cause physical damage...electric? that would be rare. Besides, it's your fence on your property...stinking lawsuit happy country we live in.

It's boundary fences where signs might be required, legally. Depends on local laws.

The guy was an idiot who should have been removed from the gene pool so he couldn't propagate. He put 110V on the fence.

voltage not the problem, amps
modern chargers are high volts, very short millisecond burst, lower amps

The stated "110 volts" clearly implies house current which is known to be deadly. The foolish quote by the police chief implies that house current is okay if you use a 5 amp breaker - STILL DEADLY. It only takes about 0.2 amps.
